I was wondering if anyone could help me with my Black Templar 1500 pt list before i start to buy some models. Ok here goes:
HQ- Emperors champion-90
Uphold the honor of the emperor-10
Master of Sanctity-110
Holy orb of Antioch-10
10 initiates, champion, standard bearer, apothercary,
2 meltaguns, veteran sergeant with a powerfist-238
Troops- Initiate squad 1
10 initiates, meltagun, powerfist-185

initiate squad 3
10 initiates, missle launcher, plasmagun-185
Elites- Sword brethren squad
5 brethren, lightning claw pair, power weapon, crusader seals, furious charge-145
razorback with smoke launchers-93
fast attack- assault squad
5 initiates, power weapon, plasma pistol- 130
this is my first post by the way.
ivve only been playing warhammer 4 awhile and ive only used my tried and true word bearers, so im not used to Loyalists.
ok i'll try to help. The best sm squads are squads that are normally full sized (codex chapters 10)
Basically, there not really worth taking unless there are 10 members. Special exceptions are the Sniper squads, which are tactical squads which are 5 men and have a heavy weapon.
You need 10 men in that assault squad. drop the 10 neophytes for the extra 5 assault marines. Basically same goes for the sword bretheren. there way too small to pose a real threat to anything, and the razor back is next to useless. give them infiltrate and make a 10 man squad.
First and foremost, this belongs in the army lists section. Repost it there and you will, hopefully, get some more unit by unit opinions. I don't mean to be snippy, but this doesn't belong here.
I'll still make a few general points. Terminator Honors, Bolt Pistol, and Frag Grenades are pretty much standard kit for HQs. Your heavy weapon squads don't need to be ten men. They're going to hang back and shoot, so you just need enough flesh to protect the weapons. You can safely drop 3-5 men from each one. Close combat squads need to be big, so bring up the numbers on the Sword Brethren and Assault squads.
take rhinos and land raider crusaders as transports. Dont take shooting squads because of rightous zeal and theyll just run foward. I play a friend who has black templars and he uses a crusader, 2 rhinos, predator annihilator for tank busting and all of his men are focused on CC. Black Templars are a CC army so use that to there advantage. Also use a 10 men assault squad for itll be far more effective. Also take a Marshall or Chaplin and stick them in the squad with thet emprors champion and put it all in the Crusader. That way there almost guarenteed to get there. You could use a marshall with the emprors champion and the chaplin too for a hardhitting force. Also u always want to outnumber innitates from neophyes, because then the majorety save will be +3 and if they fail u can remove initiates who only cost 10 points a model. Also drop the sword bretheren and use the points for something else. This IMO is a good BT list

well i was originally plannig to use the emperors champion with the sword brethren and have a mobile shock force, one that goes straight for the commander. Also i see the problem for the assault squad ,but what should i drop to get more of them?
As i said, drop the neopyhtes in teh squad for 5 more assault marines.
HURRAY FOR THE HOLY HAND GRENADE! heh heh that still makes me laugh. Presonally what i would do is drop the commmand squad and add some more assault marines. Join your chaplin up w/ the sword breathern and use the points for filling out the assault squad and adding anouther one. As bonjordo turn the missle squads in to sniper squads, and use the spares to make anouther crusader squad. As for the idea w/ the ec and the sword Breathern, i would attach him to the large mob style squad you got there, its a much bigger buffer for such a beast. And with your vow if you do decide to go w/ more assault squads it might be a good idea to take Accept any challange, this way when your lads charge into combat you get 60 attacks hitting on 3s and more likely than not wounding on 3s. Also im not all that oppesed to the large mob style squads, a charging squadof 20 marines geared for close combat is not something you want to be on the reciving end of

Sorry green beard ive already bought the command squad so i cantafford any more extra stuff. Ive re-arranged my list and will post it on the army lists forum soon enough. Thanks for all the help!
ok drop the sword bretheren for 238 and drop a few neophytes thats a termi squad. and also. with the new rules heavy weapon bound squads are close to useless as youl just run like mad men if your squad member dies. i prefer rhinos and predators with my crusaders. and remember sword bretheren are great models but way to over priced to even be worth putting them in a list

the new rule states that the black templar move due to the Massacre result, so wouldnt they still get to shoot next turn (as they can only take casualties from shooting in the enemies turn). Thats how i took it anyway.
also i was going to drop the swordies anyway and replace them with another close combat Crusader squad, so as to get more models on the field. Check out the Army lists section when i post it.
