well i need to know if this would prve to be a good idea for my future army list i am useing iron hands
hq is my techmarine
3 whrilwinds 1 with the cattlin missles
3 dreadnoughts all mounted with twin linked auto cannons and missle luanchers
2 tact squades with rocket luanchers and plasma guns
4 gun servetors
2 landspeeder typhoons
now i wanna play defecive let them come to me on my terms and always have my guys in range of my wheril winds
so wutcha think of this idea
I think your ****ed if they get to you fast, like a tyranid or de army does. But othere than that your fine i think.
To do the bidding of the god of decay death and corruption is to be rid of all things that makes you weak only in return for the control of your soul!
Ok well Space Marine dreadnoughts cannot have auto-cannons,you might have mistaken them for assault cannons.
Ok the whirlwinds are nice and they are very effective in a defensive army. But against armies with power armour or lots or 3+ saves you willhave some trouble seeing as the whirlwinds missiles are on ap4 therefore they still get their 3+ armour so you will have a hard time with that.
Instead maybe only have 1 whirlwind and have a 8 man devastator squad with 4 missile launchers. This squad is very versatile and is extremly effective in a defensive army, which you are going for.
You also lack heavy weapons and anti armour weapons. If you are up against a vechile heavy army, especially an assaulty army with lots of transports you will be stuffed.
The land speeders are agood idea but i think the tornados equipped with assault cannons and heavy bolters would be alot better of an idea.
Mostly what you have described is a lay back and shoot army, I have to agree you will be messed up if they get into CC range fast. With that said, I'd change that list a bit.
Drop one whirlwind and add a Dev squad with 4 missle launchers or a Vindicator.
Add at least 1 Assault squad for a counter assualt unit.
Give your HQ a Razorback with TLLC for some Monstrous Creature/anti tank power. But be prepared for it to go away fast unless you give your opponents something else to worry about (note the Vindicator will fill that nitch quite nicely).
Last but by no means least what were you going to outfit the Gun servitors with?
breath, sight, squeeze.
now double tap just for grins
and Another One bite's the dust.
A bolter round for all that oppose the Emperor.
ya i was thinking of droping 1 whirlwind for a Vindicator maybe ill do that
i was thinking heavy bolters anny oather ideas
and check out forge wold for dreadnoguht autocannons

Nope, this army would not do well. This is the worst space marine HQ.hq is my techmarineEh, bolters can handle massed infantry, and tau wont care about you killing there firewarriors.3 whrilwinds 1 with the cattlin misslesIllegal, even if this was, im guess, an assault cannon, this is the worst patern dreadnought3 dreadnoughts all mounted with twin linked auto cannons and missle luanchersUse lascannons in tactical squad, 6 members.2 tact squades with rocket luanchers and plasma gunsWeak armour saves makes them bad.4 gun servetorsworst formation of skimmer.2 landspeeder typhoons
Fluffy but like Forged says competitively it sucks. Use the model as a commander or somethingOriginally Posted by Ghost bearThe only time I would ever use 3 whirlwinds is if I was using the minefield tactic. Otherwise ditch some to get a pred or vindicator, they're better imoOriginally Posted by Ghost bearI like dreads. But why aren't they venerable? If I remember rightly IH can have 3 venerable dreads  I could be wrongOriginally Posted by Ghost bearSee what Forged saidOriginally Posted by Ghost bearI don't like them, too weak in a marine armyOriginally Posted by Ghost bearPeople love bashing these guys, but I like them in small battles. Spread them across the FA slots as much as possible to diffuse enemy fire. Imo, like missile launchers, they tend to get less usefull as battles get largerOriginally Posted by Ghost bearTau and IG will take you apart. Also your very vunerable to fast or DSing armies. From what your describing I would have thought mobile rather than static firepower would suit your playing style more. Just a thoughtOriginally Posted by Ghost bear
Hope this helps
i figered ig would take me appart my start chagned to 2 weril winds with 1 vincator
um dreads i donno about realy iam looking for range in thow
i need something to deal with anti armor and i worried about a basklis takeing me appart at range
well i cant compain at least you guys are giveing it to me stright up i will rpbly play mine start thow

Remove that Techmarine and gun servitors. NOW.
Vindicators scare the **** out of people, good choiceOriginally Posted by Ghost bearGo for 5-7 man SM squads with lascannon for anti-tank. Maybe a pred with lascannon turret and HB sponsons too (don't forget extra armour and smoke launchers on any direct firing vehicles!)Originally Posted by Ghost bearMaybe take a termie squad in DP? One of my friends used infiltrating meltas onceOriginally Posted by Ghost bear
