do space marines ever get time off like do they ever get to go see the familys and stuff
Space marines get 1 week of rest after every 6 months of battle duty. THis is not optional; you HAVE to take this. But space marines don't really visit their relatives; the chapter is all that matters...
"I have died a thousand deaths, and I will die a million more..."
A space marine's chapter IS his family.
The only "time off" they get is between 23:45 and 000 each day. During this time space marines are expected to "consider the magnitude of their duty to the Emperor."
Space Marines do NOT go home to "visit mom". They are far to indoctrinated into the Chapter, and far to inhuman to fit into a "normal" society. They gods among men after all.
It depends on the Chapter. The Imperial Fists and Black Templars both completely sever contacts with their mortal families. The Space Wolves and Salamanders, however, maintain very close relationships with the natives of their respective homeworlds. I could easily see a recently initiated Salamander Marine giving his father a visit.
As stated, Space Marines receive one week of rest per six months of active service, and are given one hour each day for prayer and contemplation, and another break for general leisure, the length of which varies according to Chapter. It could be up to an hour, or it might not exist at all, as is the case with the Imperial Fists.
Generally, a Space Marine would quickly outlive any of his relatives, especially given the nature of the worlds most Marines are recruited from. Think about it - by the time he's one hundred, he's still considered young to his Chapter and his father's long dead and his grandchildren are growing up. That is if he even sees any connection between them - as mentioned, indoctrination and bodily modification mean that the closest thing to a family that Marine has is his Chapter.
