which tank should i choose first?

I'm starting raven guard with a unit of scouts, a tactical squad and an assault squad. after that I'm getting more marines and a tank, but I'm stuck on which one I should pick. my main opponents are nids, IG and other marines. which tank should I pick?

I would recommend a Predator as it is tactically versatile. What you would arm it with depends on the playing style of your opponents.

Remember that Raven Guard can't take a Predator Ahhnilator, as it states in the "Flesh Over Steel" disadvantage section.

IMO, a Whirlwind would do your army well, as you say you'd be facing Nids and Orks, as well as other marines. The Whirlwind does less than amazing against 3+ save armies, but it kicks butt at taking out Orks and Tyrands. Its also great because it can fire from behind cover while staying out of line of sight, therefore avoiding retribution for the most part.

I haven't got the SM codex, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Flesh over Steel = No lascannons for your tanks.

I'd say a Destructor, since that covers anti-infantry and the autocannon can take out light vehicles.

I would say a Pred is a good choice, but seeing as you can't take one with lascannons, a Whirlwind or some LST's.

The Whirlwind is geat at killing enemy troops, but can't deal with any heavy armour, and LST's can kill anything it wants, but has bad armour and is hard to hide

I voted LST, because it fits with the theme, and the fact that if you use very few heavy armour tanks all the enemies anti-tank weapons will be focused on them. LST's are quick and don't attract as much firepower. Make him waste his lascannons on your marines instead.
