Ya well, when the horus hersey was all said and done, the blood angels lost there primarch, the emperors great crusade was over and he was mortaly wounded leaving the imperium on the brink of destrution leaving only those heroic space marines to guard and along with billions of imperial guard but we dont really care about them. Ya well those shining warriors had an idea lets split up. Well What i would like to know is which 2nd founding chapter has really had the most effect in were the imperium is today(well not really today but you know what i mean)?
Personaly i think of only one great chapter, the black templars!
Heh, in terms of reknown possibly. But what you have to remember is that outside the hugely well known chapters who get a lot of attention due to their place in the universe, Space Marines are kicking ass pretty much everywhere. Each time a Space Marine Chapter comes to war they will be executing manuvers and pulling off victories that have your average Guardsmen gobsmacked.
Even if your custom made chapter is a 60th founding from the gene seed of a gene seed of random Ultramarine #451, you are still a superhuman warrior. My 3rd Edition Space Marine codex hinted at their being a 1000 chapters that the Imperium actually knows about and many more they don't, so throughout the galaxy the most famous chapters are probably the ones nearest to you.
To add to your list though I'd probably add the Crimson Fists and the Blood Ravens as two particularly notorious chapters!
