I am Starting a Imperial guard army. i am very confused. But from what i grasped, Putting Heavy weapons in an army is a good thing. From what i figured out, they need that firepower.
Conscipts are rubbish even though they get more speical weapons. Vets and Storm troopers are nice. Tanks are really nice(this is coming from a Tau player-Feel honored).
What i plan to do is get a motar command squad, and sniper command squad.
Strom troopers, vets
Anti armor platoon, 20 guys plus any weapon good against armor execpt melta
Vanguard platoon, 30 guys with flamers, Crossiers, vets
Crowd control platoon with 20 guys, H.Bolters, and flamers.
1 Sential, with muitli lazer
1 leman russ
With Speial Camo, Sharpshooters, and drop troops but im not to sure about that.
And for god sake, let me know if you know a cool Camo color, im good with game but i don't like dessert camo troops (even thou they look cool) in the middle of the jungle.
i need feedback please.
I won't write an essay on how to construct a guard army, I could give you advice on your chosen units and doctrines if you want me to, but I highly advise you read the codex, the tactica articles on this website and also some submitted army lists before you think about what your army will be comprised of.Originally Posted by Bladeweaver
You really need to learn the merits and weaknesses of each unit at your disposal, and the roles they are capable of performing, otherwise you will may regret your choices after you have started to model the army.
Once you know the ins and outs of each unit and think you have got a strong army together, post it in the army lists section and we will be glad to comment on it. Right now I just don't think you understand the roles of your units and how the compliment each other.
I agree w. Xethemez. I will say a few small things though. First off Sniper special weapon squads suck, flat out. If you really feel the need for snipers take ratlings for the cost of 1 special weapon squad w/3 sniper rifles you can get damn near a full squad of ratlings. Mortar support squads are kinda nice in the fact that they can dish out 3 barage weapon shots a turn for ony 60 points. VERY nive vs Alitoc craftworlds ( Where's your your cover saves now!)Originally Posted by Xethemez
Go w/ vets definatly but you may wanta swap out the storm troppers for more men. Each of your squads should have 1 special weapon ( I almost always take plasma guns) and 1 heavy weapon ( avoid las cannons, pound for pound they aint all that great 'sept in a few situations) Also one of the most important things to keep in mind is that never spend points on upgrade if you can get more guns!
Rheagar fought nobly
Rheagar fought valiantly
Rheagar fought honorably
And Rheagar died.
I disagree about lascannons. There are sometimes a rocket launcher or a plasmagun just can't cut it. Monoliths, Daemon Princes and Carnifexes all being examples. IMO Lascannons are an excellent investment.

... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
In infantry squads particularly I prefer the Lacannon, it's AP2 means it compliments the Plasmagun very well. If you stick a missile launcher in a squad, there aren't really any SWs available that will want to be firing at the same targets as it most of the time.Originally Posted by Triumph Of Man
I do like missile launchers though - particularly from a modeling point of view, as you can equip individual models rather than having to use an arkward special weapons base. But other than that I think they have few merits over lascannons. Both single shot - I know which statline I would rather be firing, the frag missile is good in some situations, but I have little faith in small blast templates.
