"No, you cant use that!"...We've all heard that from time to time, whether it be in reference to VDRs, or simple things like Leman Russ Exterminators. But whenever those nice "bring your VDRs and forgeworld stuff" days come around, the guard shine through. Other armies may take flyers to add punch, but the guard can bolster their strength without the use of flyers (although they can). easily 15 tanks, plus superheavies lie in wait for the day they can cause huge explosions for the heretics. Here is my VDR, Cerberus.
191 pts, 11,11,10, 3 Barrel Earthshaker Battery, 2 Lasguns, Indirect Fire.
Any completed VDRs or just forgeworld stuff out there?
PS I think there was a similar thread, but it was really old.
How many guardsmen does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None, their lasguns work fine.
Hmm... Not Guard, and not actually even mine, but what the heck.
One of the guys around here (don't see him too often, he's on the other side of town) had been plotting for the longest while since 4th Edition came out that he was going to VDR a Land Raider (or Crusader) that dropped all its armament in favour of an absolutely unhealthy number of twin linked Assault Cannons. :w00t: (is there such a thing as Long Barreled? I think he mentioned that, too...)
IIRC, by the time it was all said and done, there were going to be 4 or 5 AC batteries on the thing. Scary amounts of firepower, but a much scarier points cost - I think it was something like double the base price or more!
A few years back. me and a friend built a ruleset for a Mammoth MK2 (from Tiberian Sun) which we planned to try and build. But we never got around to it in the end.
If I remeber correctly it was armed with:
2x Long Barreled Railguns
2x Smart Missile racks (AA mount)
1x 'Chin mounted' burst cannon, which I beleive was twin and long barreled.
It also had a 20-man transport capacity and 3 structure points.
But of course that was Tau, not guard.
[QUOTE=Xethemez] Mammoth MK2 (from Tiberian Sun) QUOTE]
i liked that tank and was thinking of doing something similar but doing it for the guard
We picked Tau because of their railguns. But I don't think it would be hard to do a guard version:
2x Mega-Long Barreled Lascannons (Str10, AP1, R72", Heavy1)
1x Chin mounted assault cannon
I'm not sure what weapon I would use for the twin missile pods. Multiple rocket pods might work, but they are too low strength to be an AA weapon. Need to be at least Str6 AP4 IMO.
Me and my rommate fooled around a tiny bit with the VDR... only rule we had was to keep in the spirit of the army you're playing as.
So I designed my TOW Jeep...
I don't remember all the specifics, but it ended up like this:
FSR armor = all AV 9 (it's a freakin' jeep... what do you expect?)
Fast (Souped up Engines a la Salamander)
Twin-Linked Missile Launcher
Came in at around 50-60 points I believe. I figured it fit perfectly with the way the rest of the guard's vehicles work, role and idea-wise.
