Below, I have 2 WH Inquisitors that I'm trying to pick between. I intend to stick him in a 2000pt. Space marine army themed towards fighting Eldar. Both are obviously equipped primarily for dealing with psykers, although I know that not every game I play will include psykers. Basically, I'm building my army like a tournament list, but with the units I like (hence the inclusion of an inquisitor  )
So then, which one do you think is generally going to be "better" for me to take?
Psychic hood, Combi-flamer, Hammer of the Witches, Excruciators
2x Warriors w. Flamers, 2 Penitents, 1 Familiar - 150
Psychic Hood, Combi-flamer, Excruciators, Divine Pronouncement, Purgatus
2 Penitents, 1 Familiar - 145
Also, if you can suggest a better anti-psyker Inquisitor that I could take (for 150 pts or less...that's all I can spare!), then I'm happy to hear it. I was pondering the idea of taking a bolter-stake crossbow, but I've yet to find a setup that is cheap enough and that I'm fully comfortable with.
You are presumably worried about ser councils and the like?
OK my first concern is thinds like combi stke crossbows ignor inv saves, but allow normal ones, the standard Eldar warlock or farseer has teh same normal save as inv save, so these lack some of their potency.
Psychic power (may be purgatros - dont recall) that drops their leadership sounds good but bear in mind warlocks dont need to take tests and in a seer council, augment will allow mindwar to vastly outrange you.
Accordingly my favourite would be the first =][= although in all honesty, I would stick with the marines and take a libby with a psykic hood and forget the inquisitor
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Combi-stake Crossbows only ignor normal armour saves not invulnirable, but it always wounds on a 2+ against psykers.OK my first concern is thinds like combi stke crossbows ignor inv saves, but allow normal ones, the standard Eldar warlock or farseer has teh same normal save as inv save, so these lack some of their potency.
You want psycannon bolts which can be upgraded to combi weapons, this will upgrade the weapon to ap4 and ignor invulnurable saves.
I did think of adding psycannon bolts to a combi-crossbow at one point but apparantly you can only use one or the other, the two effects don't combine.
yup, ur best bet is a storm bolter w/ psycannon bolts+ a psychic hood. Then use hammer of te witches
2000pts Orks 4-2-1
Actually no. With a Ld10 psychic hood I'm relatively confident that I'll be able to neutralise the better part of their psychic powers, and with fortune gone (hopefully), I imagine an assault squad (or 2) should make short work of them.Originally Posted by CheredanineI realise that an equivalently costed librarian is going to be far superior to my meagre inquisitor. Furthermore, I'm not actually taking the inquisitor to get access to things like assasins or daemonhosts. I realise he's going to be less efficient than other options I could take but frankly, I just want to include a damn inquisitor. :rolleyes:Originally Posted by Cheredanine
So it seems everyone thinks the first one is better and frankly, I was leaning towards taking him anyway. I can see the second guy being very handy against a greater variety of armies (ie. non-fearless ones), but when he's relying on LOS powers to do his damage, he isn't going to last long in the line of fire with what he has. Besides, I really like flamers, so it's pretty hard to pass up a unit with 3 flame templates running around.
Maybe when/if I expand to a full =I= army, I'll take the second guy in some other form, but for now it will be the first setup for accompanying my marine army.
Conicidentally, I've managed to find 9 more points to equip my inquisitor with, so he'll also be getting an acolyte with a shotgun.
give the inquisitor lord the lieber heriticus, this allows you at the start of the game to take a ld test and then if you pass you choose which side you deploy on this is a major advantage especially when you go to tourneys

Are you sure? I assumed that a combi bolter is still a bolt weapon. That's how I've always played it (xbow-bolter with psycannon bolts) and no-one ever said anything :huh:Originally Posted by Heiromyo
The only thing changing is that the ammo's been blessed. It's still the same size and shape as regular boltgun rounds isn't it? I dunno, I just always thought the "bolter" listed in the entry included the bolter on a combi-weapon. If it doesn't then I suppose it's just one of those instances where a decidion for game balance defies logic

I think common sense would dictate that you can give psycannon bolts to a combiweapon, but it would only work when you are fring the bolter, not the (eg.) crossbow.Originally Posted by robotnik
Not that I usually pick an arguement unless I'm completely sure I'm right, but what information are you basing this on?Originally Posted by Cheredanine
