This is a question for the Space Marine players (and CSM for that matter). I want to entertain some discussion on whether you run Terminators in your armies. I've been reading through these (and other) forums for a long while and pretty much never see Terminators included in any proposed or recommended army lists. If you do, and have had success, I'd be interested to hear about it, because apparently most do not. I'd like to hear about both standard, as well as assault terminator squads.
The reason for my inquiry is this: It seems as though nobody runs Terminators anymore, and this is a shame. The Terms were once the pride of a Space Marine army; they were a force to be reckoned with. Sweat would bead on the enemy commander's brow as they were deployed to the gaming table. Now, however, it seems the noble Terminator squad can't compete with so many more effective, and points efficient, choices.
What are your thoughts?
I use 2 squads of terminators in my army. The terminators can be defeated easier now but are still one of the best units in the whole game.
I still use my pretty little Termie squad with their even prettier 2 Assault cannons. They're still a viable choice against most armies.

Indeed, your standard termie squad is still quite nice, capable of beating up on a whole range of foes. Termie assault squads are still effective too if you can find them a safe way to make it to the enemy.

Why are terminators a no-no to you? Are you afraid of losing a guy to the death company?Originally Posted by High Priest Avion
termies are awesome if you use em right. i love my regular termis. assault termies are viable against nids to hold a flank. dont call me insane i have held a squad of 6 warriors a brood of 30 gaunts and a hive tyrant off. it was as an ultramarineeusqe moment... any way use em learn how to use em efficiently and your enemy will fear them. just why death wing are so frigin cool...
"be without fear in the face of your enemy, be brave and upright god may love thee, always speak the truth even if it leads to your death, and above all safe guard the helpless and do no wrong"
Follow up question for everyone: How do you field your Terminators?
Do you ever try to get your standard squad in close combat, or is it sufficient to just blaze away with your two Assault Cannon and Storm Bolters from friendly lines?
When you do go for the assault, do you only do it with the Term Assault squad, or do you still try to get stuck-in with the standard guys?
What is your preferred delivery system, teleport, drop pods, LR, LRC?
Keep in mind, I'm targetting this towards 1850-2000 point games.
Yeah that goes for me too.I stay away from termies,i dont even keep the posibility open like HPA here.Originally Posted by High Priest Avion

Well Death Company is the word yeah. You just cant afford to pay that many points for a model to loose it before the game even begins,it can really hurt you.
The other day a kid was having a game and he was playing a game and he was Blood Angels and he feilded a termie squad,he rolled for death company on them and he rolled 3 6's! Aww i felt so sorry for him.....
