I was looking around on the net for some fluff to support the inclusion of space dwarves...squats...whatever you want to call them but found somewhere that the Imperium no longer will enlist dwarves, halflings or half-man half beast types. Anybody know what's up with ratlings then!? In terms of fluff whatever happened to the squats and when? And, if I were to try and include them in an army what time period would that reflect...AND what would that mean in terms of equipment, vehicles, unit types...see where I'm going with this?
I think Squats were officially killed off.
As for ratlings, when the war is going to sh*t. The recruiting officers often start adopting a "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy like the one used in Australia in WW2. Before that Aboriginals never had a shot at joining the armed forces.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
GW have stated over and over theri reasons for killing off squats, these were not driven by fluff, but rather fluff may have been created to give reasons. what you are trying to find is the tail wagging the dog
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Look I know why GW got rid of the squats, that's not what I am looking for. What I am looking for is the supporting fluff however thin as it may be. Maybe I'm not making myself clear. My goal here is to figure out when that happened in terms of the 40K timeline and what impact that will then have on my modelling...
Last time squats were heard of was after the second Armageddon war.
Ghazghkull Thraka after rebuilding his forces attacked the Squat held world of Golgotha.
A Squat army supported by commissar Yarrick and imperial forces fought the orks, but were beaten. This was an epic battle featured on a white dwarf some years ago, so its kinda official. We could assume that with the fall of Golgotha and the third Armageddon war (941M41) the orks interrupted the trade routes between the imperium and the squat homeworlds cutting them off .
See now that was what i was looking for...thank you Hermann...
from what I heard the squats are coming back in the alienhunter codex so there will be fluff along with it if this is true.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
Poor Yarrick! After having commanded the steel legion, he finished with squats.Originally Posted by Hermann Morr

For models, check out Hasslefree's Grymn, they can be used as more modern-looking squats easily. The rules for space marine scouts or storm troopers would suit them well.
I agree, those models are way cool. Too bad no GW store would ever let you use them, but that doesn't mean you couldn't play at a local gaming club/at your house with the models.
