Saw this article in Chapter approved WD 305 US and have been thinking about this for a campaign army at my local hobby store.
I plan to have a SM captain with a storm bolter and a power fist, 2-3 veteran SM with bolters and a CCW or another power weapon, either 1 or 2 heavy bolters with special ammo or maybe one plasma gun and one melta gun, the rest of the squad will be Space marines.
The point count for this will be under 400 points as allowed by the campaign.
Does any one have any ideas or thoughts on this before I get started building?
Wait... did you mean to put this in the Space Marine forum? You're in the Imperial Guard section.
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
Is that for a 400 point game or is it allied to a guard force in more points??
technically this should be in an inquisiton fourm since they're Ordo Xenos after all, the death watch are available to any army of the imperium. I personally love the Death Watch, the assault HB are sweet and they all are great in shooting and in CC, though they are a big point sink.
In an Imperium of a million worlds, what is the death of one world in the cause of purity?
He who allows the alien to live,
shares its crime of existence.
they are an alternative HQ option for IG so he posted in the correct forum
Don´t mess with the dicegod
Additional, not alternative (as you still have to take the Command Platoon). Just nitpicking, but it's better to be safe than sorry
Warrior 50: You mention a campaign, are you sure a single HQ unit is legal? If it's a Combat Patrol campaign then you need at least one troops choice.

According to the Chapter Approved Article the Death Watch Kill team is an special force to the Imperial Guard and count as an HQ and an elite choice.
I am a die hard guard player and I am always looking for a way to beat a foe and this sounded like a cool idea.
For those of you who missed it look in the US White Dwarf #305 under the chapter approved articles.
As one of you mentioned Space Marines may be played as an allied force, however the Deathwatch Kill team is a special force.
Sorry if I made anyone mad.
I have an Army HQ for the IG force and will have my usuall HQ for each platoon I field.
At this point the store is planning the campaign for late summer early fall and it will be a 400 point Deathwatch team and somewhere between 1500 and 1850 of Imperial forces for each Imperial force player.
The evil side get a total force equal to the Imperial forces so they will have a 400 point force and a 1500 to 1850 force for each player.
The store only told us about it so those who need to build an army or new unit would have them ready by the time this thing starts. There a couple of players who are updating their Tau and a couple of new IG players as well as some players from other imperial forces who are kicking the dust off old armies.
We have a group of chaos, ork, eldar, buggs and tau players to play. Should be fun.
Deathwatch kill teams = generally not worth the points in my opinion.
They're great for fluff, but the trouble is, they try to be good at everything, and inevitably wind up being ridiculously overpriced for what they're actually going to do.
If you're going to use one, be abseloutely brutal with the points. Special ammo is generally not worth it.. special weapons (with the exception of perhaps a single heavy bolter) are not worth it.. More than a few power weapons are definately not worth it. Keep it clean and simple.

So you suggest a unit of marines with bolters?... Since he is forced to take a 400 point unit he might as well fill that up. A heavy bolter and some powered weapons is never a wasteThey are for any imperial army (SM, IG, *hunters) an only count as an HQ.Originally Posted by Warrior 50
