hello, i have a friend who wants to start with imperial guard, and asked me if the following is alloewd, he has taken the info from a downloaded refference sheet
Skills and drills:
Close order drill
he wants to create a sort of elite IG force, a bit like a special commando regiment.
(and for the record, i've already told him to get the codex:yes: )
thanks in advance
Yes, those are legal doctrines to take. He should probably play around with his doctrines for a while, if he's just starting IG, just to make sure he knows what his options are.
And he's also going to need to cvome to terms with the fact that IG "special forces" armies are still going to be a LOT weaker than other races' special forces armies, so watching his troops get slaughtered is going to be an important lesson. (this doesn't mean he's going to lose, but a lot of guardsmen are going to need to die).
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
Its legal, but a bit weird.... If he drops the troops in, then light infantry is a bit of a waste (as he cant use infiltrate) and vice versa. Sharpshooters is fine as is storm troopers.
I would probably suggest getting rid of drop troops and infiltrating the infantry, (as the storm troopers can drop in anyway)... If this is the tactic he goes for, then its probably best to fill the army with special weopans...
Another couple of doctrines to consider are camoleoline (works well with light infantry, as you can infiltrate into cover and it adds to their survivability), and veterans, to add to the elite feel...
Hope that was of use
on behalve of my friend: thank you
i just talked to him (long live MSN) and he is fine to drop the Drop troops, it seems that he visions a force that infiltrates and preforms special duties.
he likes camoleoline, he says he will translate it as good training and battle experience.
he also wonders if he needs a skill or so to include snipers and vetrans.
EDIT: he also wonders if you have any conversion tips for a leman russ a la commando style.
( my poor space marines)
Veterans are an elite 0-1 choice, the doctrine just makes them elite, you can have ratling snipers as elite (but who wants hobbits), you can have them in normal squads instead of a heavy weopan using light infantry and you can also spend a doctrine to get special weopan squads as part of the HQ.
Commando leman russ????!!?? Try the conversion forum.
But i'd give it wheels, and extra equipment....
