hay guys i was wondering about what you guys have for the attendant staff of your Command Squads that lead the Infantry Platoons?
If you do things right people wont be sure if you have done anything at all.
Try using a mix, I lke melta guns and vox casters, but I also use some heavy weapons teams as well.
Everyone will tell you something different, but keep in mind the purpose of the platoon they are leading. Especially if they are a hit and run force.
Try it out and see what you like, keep in mind that you can field an HQ for each platoon.
As Warrior 50 said, it depends on who their leading. When I bring out my suicide platoons (to see how many gaurdsmen can get to the other side of the board) I load 'em up with grenade launchers and melta-guns so they can move and fire full and then assault.
When I feel like keeping my gaurdsmen alive the command squads are rarely seen, using mortars to offer some fire support. They do little against power armour armies and 'nid gaunts but everytime a unit is pinned thats one more turn they waste...

I go with four special weopans every time.... i love these guys not only for their effects but also for the fear they cause (and for hilarity with every man with plasma)....
Four plasmas are pretty good but what about four GL instead. It gives you a nice counter assault unit, not that we ever want to do that mind you, while still putting some decent S weapons on the table.
Not only that but you can build them from the sprue from the basic set so it makes for a cheap command squad. Very economical.
I like Platoon Command squads in three ways:
1> Leadship with a little firepower. Equip the J.O. with Iron Discipline, and a HW like a Mortar or Heavy Bolter, something that doesn't seem to much of a threat. I might also add one Plasma or a couple of Grenade Launchers.
2> Suicide Special Weapon Drop squads. Equip the J.O. with Plasma Pistol and have three Meltas or three or four Plasmas. Use these for dropping in on Landraiders, Broadsides or other such nasties.
3> (Less Used) Flamer - Counter Assault Squad. Equip the J.O. with Honorifica, Power Weapon, Carapace and have three Flamers. Mount this squad in a Flaming Chimera'O Doom.

I enjoy the following set up
Commissar with bolt pistol
x3 grenad lauchers
Most of my comand squads look like that, I love commissars, its just something about executing your own men...

My commands are varied as well. Some are pitiful excuses for CC , others are just another iron disipine hub.
The one thing I've learned not to do is to pile all those weapons in one place. Spread them out to squads, save points on the command squad and try to get more guys. Sure, 4 melta squads are scary, until you realsie it's some really expensive popcorn, especially in smaller games. As I haven't played many games at 2000+ points for a while, I don't know if 2 or 3 of those babies stuck in the middle of an infantry formation would work better, but my feeling is to protect the good guns with as much of a meat shield as you can get!
