I play ba obviously, and i was wondering how wise u would say this is, i was thinking of dividing up my tac squads and instead of having 3 ten man squads, have 6- 5 man squads each with assault weapon and heavy weapon. my 3 tac squads already have an ml, and one has a lc. I have recently bought a da devastator squad from ebay with two plasma cannons and two lcs with sarge and two extra marines, i also have an hb sitting around in a failed attempt at a vetran squad, so i was wondering if i do split my tac squads do i add heavy weapons and if so which ones. for reference my army comprises of, and lastely do u think it would be wise to add one or two more marines to each squad or a few to one or two because of their roles.
5 man dc +chaplain
3 tac squads +vet sarge, two have ml, one has lc
1 10man assault squad
2 attack bikes
1 dread ml/lc
i had this idea as an easier way to get more heavy weapons on the table with less chance of getting them ruled unusable by black rage, and also giving my men more manuouverability.
any comments would be greatly appreciated ty
It would certainly be more powerful if you divided the troops. It would give you more heavy weapons, as you mentioned, but it would also give you a larger death company.
However, I think that 5-6 man is too small a squad. Lose one or two to the death company and you have a pitiful squad that will hardly do anything. Sure, it will still have a heavy weapon, but heavy weapons is not really supposed to be the reason BA players field marines I would suggest going with about 7-8 guys in a squad. That way you can lose a guy to DC and still have a viable squad on the table. That means divide your 30 marines in 4 squads instead of 3. This would be overall better than you current setup without compromising too much.
With a devastator squad, two attack bikes (HB? MM?), dreadnougth, and 4-5 tactical squads with a heavy weapon each I think you have enough heavy weapons on the table.

Were to burst at once into the sky,
That would be like the splendor of the Mighty One...
I am become Death,
The shatterer of Worlds.
Ok well my thoughts on it are small tac squads in a Blood angels army is more of a act of suicide but that is only my opinion. Also if you are going to get more tac squads I would suggest buying and painting more death company because the rules state once you run out of DC models any further guys found to be DC die, unless you have a very nice oponet, but also you will need them if you do a tournament because there it doesn't matter how nice your oponet is you still will loose men. Also the real reason that small squads is just plain wrong fro BA is that if you have a squad of five there is a chance that over half could end up in the DC depending on how your rolls go and leaving something like that to chance isn't a good thing, I know having a ton of DC would be awsome if you had the models but a unit like that will draw allot of attention and if you no longer have decent squads to back it up and provide support so that they can make it to their targets then they will be shot down before they get into close combat I would also suggest jump packs being that they don't cost anything for the death company and it will almost make sure that they can reach a squishy little target to beat the living crap out of. But I would say a good rule of thumb for death company models is have maybe 2 or three painted per infantry unit, that way unless you have 6's over and over again you shouldn't run out of death company. Also I can't remember what your list said but just to make sure never ever send a commander for blood angels out on foot without a command squad because you will have to roll a DC dice for him and if he is the only one that is allot of points strait out the door. Ok just remembered that you only took the chaplain but for any future thoughts on it.
