    Some Newbie Questions

    Hi guys,
I am new at the warhammer 40k Game. However I have choosed to play Space Marines and
I have some easy questions. Well I dont really know which Space Marine Army I should take. One thing that I can say is that I love killing my enemies with mass fire....
I want to kill most of them before they are able to fight in close combat...
I hope my English is quite understandable If it is not tell me....
So what do you think??? Dark Angels??? Black Templars or what??? I cant really choose...
Please help me. You could list some facts of the specific orders and tell me some background. It would be easier then. I hope you guys can help a poor newbie

    Greetings from middleofnowhere

Don't play Black Templars. They are more close combat than long range shooting.

Me? I'd just go with a regular list out of the codex. Once you get a handle on that you can check out the other codexes.

Space marines aren't really the shootiest army theres is. If you want shooty go for eldar or tau.

Otherwise, have plenty of devastator squads and small fire support tactical squads.

The only "shooty" SM chapter aside from traight chapters, is Dark Angels.

So if your looking for something that shoots peopl before they get into close combat your looking at either Dark Angels or a DIY chapter. All the other major chpaters with codexes focus on assault.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:

    1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant

    2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers

    3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC

Middle of Nowwhere, DIY is internet slang for Do it Yourself. So basicly what he is saying is you can make up a Space Marine chapter using the traits at the back of the book.

And yes, we understand your English

The space wolves arent very shooty, niether are Black Templars, Blood Angels or 13th Company. The dark angels can be very shooty, but they can also do well in assualt. If you want a shooty army that does well in assualt, you could also make your own chapter and take the traits Honour your Wargear or Heed the Wisdom of the Ancients, and Take the Fight to Them, Trust your Battle Brothers, or No mercy, no Respite. Six dreads, or six dev squads, and some troops that do okay in cc. Jusy my thoughts on a decent shooty/assualty traits mix.

Thanks for all the good responses. I think I will create my own chapter.
But are the terminators good at shooting??? I dont really know if I should take them into my armylist.

Termies are a must, they have great staying power (especially stubborn deathwing termies in a dark angels army ) and they can deal out death in any ituation. Keep low on the points and don't spend too much on upgrades. I field a basic squad with an autocannon. Its works fine for me and keeps points spare for more tac marines. Happy gaming.

Well considering assault terminators BLOW and should never be taken, yes, tactical terminators are very shooty. The only decen t configurations are 5 man squads with either 2 assault cannons or 2 cyclones. Both work exceptionally well but have differing purposes.

Assault cannon squads focus on dealing with infantry. With tank huunters however their S5 storm bolters and S7 assault cannons with rending are pretty effective at taking out vehicles.

Cyclone squads with tank hunters are excellent at dealing with vehicles. As cyclones dont replace any of their previous weapons, they get the full squads S5 storm bolters and then 2 S9 krak misiles.

Either way, Terminators are a very good shooty unit. However, due to their point cost, I wouldnt recommend them in any list less then 1500 points.

What about the General of the armie. Is it a good idea to put him into the game as a terminator?? I thought about the guy as a termiantor with stormbolter and some additional upgrades... And most people, which I have seen dont really like dreadnought.
They say: It is too expensive and useless. However the dreadnought doesnt have that good
armor. What you think about it?
