Using an SM army.....is the only proper way to kill terminators using plasma cannons or is there some other tactic that I'm missing obviously. I just don't want to send my tooled up assault squad against 4 PF and 1 PW even if I have my chaplain there to.

To my knowlege there is no definitive way to kill termies. Just don't try to kill them while the rest of your army is getting munched by the rest of his army. Pick your targets and stick to 'em. This topic has probably been covered efore, might be worth running a search on it.
Terminators are small targets and big point sinks.. The only proper way is to negate there 2+ save by using plasma weapons etc.
Personally I like the option bolter the best: mass bolter and the terminator will fail there save.
I'm pretty sure this topic has been covered times ago, but well, another answer can't hurt.
Melta weapons work wonders. Although, you would be better off going with as many hits/wounds as you can get on the squad and hope for failed saves. Invunerables are tough to crack with any weapon, that is why forcing as many saves as you can is your best bet.
Assault Cannons are always fun.
Hidden powerfists mean you can mulch a couple in the assault.
If you think the scenario justifies it take a Vindicator.
Funniest thing I ever saw was when 6 GK termies and a GM deep-struck in front of my Vindy and then I rolled "hit" on the scatter dice = 5 very dead termies.
The only real defined way to kill terminators is ofcourse to negate their 2+ saves. And that is done so by plasma weaponry. But since your more of an assault marine player? I cannot say much to that, except on packing some other unit to take care of that role for you, unless you got some plasma pistols and chaplain in the squad...
haha great question, but to b honest, ive never had troubles with termies (i play orks =D.) and my grey knight termies are just beasts "Are those 2+ saves you say? HA! guess again! 5+ invulnerable saves it is then! and i wound on 2+" "oh poop...". Haha good stuff. But seriously, it depends on the situation. there are times when you should combat them with your own termies, like if your opponent is vanilla, and you're blood angels. But the best is defintely just unload into them with your bolters (or storm bolters =P. gosh i love my GK's lol)
Daemons shall crumble before my might!
Yeah, I've actually found mass firing on even 2+ saves, they will fail, and have the worse of luck. And this has been greatly proven by the power of the orks mwhaha..
Why does everyone mention plasma and forget the meltagun and lascannon.
Only a noob will place there termies so that you can get more than one model covert by your plasma.
plasma is 5 point more expensive than the lascannon and even 15 more points than the melta.
I would go for the lascannon since he doesn't have the overheat thing and have a far better range and suchs. When you use plasma and the termies are dead you have no purpuse anymore for the plasma while the lascannon can go and bust tanks and such.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
Lascannons are a one shot per turn heavy weapon, not able to shoot when walking and just able to kill one terminator. Plasma cannon has a chance to kill way more terminators 2+ with one shot. Plasmaguns are even better, due to rapid fire. Anyways, the best weapon against terminators are still bolters, period , 10 bolters > terminator armourOriginally Posted by dicegod
Next, meltaguns are a 12" wonder against armour, but against terminators, you will have to wait another turn to get into range.. and not being wasted by there storm bolters.. mention that..
