Well i dont have my codex with me, but i believe sentianal with lascannon is 65 pts? to me its not worth it. I can almost get a full squad of 10 men with lascannon for a bit more and has way more surviability then a AV 10 viehcle.
So my big question is, how have they worked for you? are they worth the $$ investment? Has lascannons worked best for you? or maybe autocannons?
sentinels arent bad if they have multilasers and an armoured crew compartment. they are a bit expensive and are vulnerable to almost anything but i find that they can be usefull for harrassing infantry or to work along side your own infantry. i have found them close to useless when you give them lascannons but autocannons might be a different story. just my personal experience maybe other people have had more success.
One of the guard players I play against uses a few sentinels. I would say they are worth their points. They provide a low-cost, mobile gun platform. They tend to be a low priority target but can more than pay for themselves in the right role. If you have tanks and hellhounds rolling around the table then I'm not going to waste my heavy weapons on your walkers... and if I do then thats one less brightlance shot against your russ.
Not to mention that they can really be annoying when the tie a squad of guardians with a support weapon (not to mention a squad of banshees!) into close combat.
i think that a sentianal with a muti-laser is the best unit for
taking out fast units like transports with 3 s6 hits even at
bs3 your get 1-2 hits then its 50/50 that you kill it
and its cheaper then a lot of a10 units out there
take one and that ork truck that the ork boss is useing
wont make it to you
you just saved alot of points there just for taking one sentianal
i remember once of having the luck of getting a rhino pinned in some terrain. This thing was surrounded on all sides by troops and vehicles. Anyway i blew the rhino up with point blank multilaser fire and because all the exits where blocked and i mean all the guys inside were crispy critters. better than that was the fact that i rolled a 6 on the penetrating hit table which took out a further 3 guys hiding behind it. 13 guys and 1 sentinel. fare enouigh they were stormies but thats 130 points gone with becasue of a cheap sentinel
im getting 3 when i can
1 with lascannon that can sit at the back all game picking off drednaughts:yes:
have some of that space marines!
In my light infantry force I play, I play vehicle light....as in the only HVY support choice I take is 1 bassie....purely for fluff reasons....so most of my heavy support comes from support and AT squads....and my sentinels.
I use 5, 3 w/ LC, 2 w/ AC...and all 5 have HK missiles. I like them alot b/c they're a mobile weapons platofrm which can infiltrate at the beginning of the game, so you can take the best firing positions. Plus w/ 2 sets I spread them out so the enemy doesn't know which group to attack first. It's worked for me so I can't complain.
Are multilasers the way to go over auto cannons? Are they powerfull enough to waste veichles, kill space marines in power amour and, reak havoc against hordes?
Im new to 40k and librarium and i need to know which sponser weapon works best overall.
Hmm. I don't like sentinels at all. They are way too many points for an AV10 with horrible ballistic's and pathetic strength. I could see their value as a suicide flamer, or maybe to distract dumb players from shooting at your tanks, but all in all I would never, ever field one over a full 10-man squad with a heavy weapon, which would cost the same.Originally Posted by Roland Durendal

10-man squad with an autocannon = 10 wounds, 8 lasguns, 1 autocannon, 10 cc attacks
A sentinel with an autocannon = 1 wound, AV10 (worthless), 1 autocannon... yeah it has infiltrate but who cares? A little bolter fire and it's toast
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
Sentinels are a good unit as a mobile weapons platform. Although as a standalone unit I have never had much luck with them, I find if you put then near a Russ they will become a secondary target to any weapon that can effectivley touch tank armour. So that is when you will want to put your lascannon on them (which comes to 55, not 65pts), without the tank they are too weak and expensive.
Many people report success using them as mobile transport hunters armed with an Autocannon, however I personaly have never had a great deal of success with Autocannon sentinels. I have had some success with Heavy Flamer Sentinels though, they are able to move qucickly accross the board and tie up S3 infantry until they break, so in this role I find them useful.
However, as a mobile weapons platform only they are worth their points. They cost about +50% over heavy weapons squads, but have an armour value of 10, and have some nice special rules, such as the scout rule and escelation.
