With the new tactica Chaosbrynn has written on whirlwinds I decided to start using them (to great affect so far with castellan mines) in my army list. I love them so much that I dropped my second landspeeder squadron so I can take them with traits of Eye to Eye.
So I was wondering if anyone ever thought of the theme "Death from Above" with whirlwinds raining death followed up by assault squads dropping into the pinned masses.
Your opinions would be appreciated, good or bad.

I use the tactic quite a lot and its pretty good for the points you pay.
Two whirlwinds lay a lot of ordanance down and completly own lots of enemies.
I personally like to use two whirlwinds combined with an assault squad and a LRC with terminators bundled in.
I am going to be starting an army which is supplemented by 3x whirlwinds, and take it to the limit and test it out against others at GW stores heh. I personally think its a cool idea, but maybe you might find my upcoming list.... to be very close to yours eh... maybe a little battle? (j/k)
I have had the horror of facing an army similar to that which you describe, using my Grey Knights.
Three Whirlwinds rained death on me from quite a distance, with a couple of Marine squads lending fire support, and a counter-assault force in the form of three deep-striking Marine squads came to mop up the remains. It was frighteningly efficient, especially because I had very little in the way of tank-busting power. My Lascannon-toting Dreadnought was quickly destroyed by the Lascannons of the starting Marine squads.
I do apologise. My previous signature was positively turd. Let's hope this'll be better.
Aw, crap. I failed.
