i just recieved two Furiosos as a present and didn't want them to sit around idol. i know, tactica-wise, that these two elite units should be drop podded (probably just behind enemy armor). FYI, i am new to 40k. so all help is appritiated.
1) help me build a list around these two units with the roll of either anit-armor or bait/distraction
2) when would a list like the above requested be at it's most useful? agaist which enemies.
it should be stated that i already have a baal pred, jump DC, 2 x assult sqds, 4 x tactical sqds, vet sqd, 3 x scout sqd, chappies, lst, ls, 2 x razorbacks, 1 x rhino, lrc, termie sqd, plus other odds and ends for opptions. only the tac sqds have been assembled. the end.
thanks for any and all expertise
well find a tau player and get him to give you some burst cannons the big ones. Then cut the barrels and the rings off the gun then take the one hand off the dread then put it on it. And bam you now have and assault cannon dread. much more effective and tactical compared to the furiosos. And if you can get your hands on some lasscannons you can convert yourself a nice lascannon dread. Those are my suggestions dont use 2 combat weapons.
no, i don't want to do that. a furioso would be way more effective if drop podded. think about it; an opponent will have to choose to move his/her armor or shoot at what would seem to be the most threatening unit on the field. either way, i would be forcing my enemy to make a choice based on me dropping a 125pt option right in his/her backyard!
when a furioso lands and scatters, say 4" away, are you going to ignore it to take a shot at a baal pred? or a squad of lst's? or Death Company w/ power fists? or a squad of assault marines? or ...
will you to attempt to shut down a realatively low costing unit while the more threatening BA resources advance?
let's say you choose to ignore it. that would be a huge mistake. first, when it lands, it would be allowed to fire its meltagun, and that would be devastating if it were within 6" of your armor. then in the following turn you'll be looking at 4 possible S22 attacks off its charge! then it'll go on to reek havoc where ever else it can. tell me this is not as effective as a TL or an assault cannon.
now, let's say you down it... you just let roughly 5-8 units (in a 2000pt game) advance and gain better ground. worth it? not to me.
now lets double this threat and add another 125pt drop podded furioso into the mix.
oh, by the way. you could even elect to use your pod as cover for other units.
i personally, wouldn't drop a furioso in infantry units, but i would drop one in front of a daemon prince or something comperable.
if anyone knows something i don't, about anything i previously stated, please tell me. i am new at this so please forgive any ignorences and correct any misconceptions on my part.
anyway, your thoughts.

question is, can moriar have drop pods? I dont think so.. since you are not allowed to give him any extra.. equipment?
No, that doesn't seem right. He should be able to, as lots of special characters are able to be given Rhino or Razorback transports, command squads and the like. Those would be the same thing, I'd think.
hmm i know not of any special character by himself that has the ability to purchase a transport?
Ofcourse if the special character joins a command squad or such, then the command squad has the ability to get the transport, not the special character himself? Or atleast its like that to my understanding.
Drop pods aren't equipment. They're transport, so I guess it's as viable as putting Mephiston in a Land Raider.

No it says specifically under the units which ones are able to take drop pods. So no he cant and no you cant just give any special character a rhino. So about the dread true if you are within 6 inches that is great but what if you are not. all he has to do is march a small IG unit with a melta up to it on his turn and blast it not much of a set back and your dread just got rocked. The assault cannon gets 4 shots and the storm bolter gets 2 so you can land get 6 shots. Then next turn assuming the dread is still alive you get six more and a charge. With the furiso you get what 2 melta shots and a heavy flamer so that is useless against most things since you have to charge what you shoot so not a vehical. And putting a furiso in from of a deamon prince is not a good idea all he has to do is just move away and blast it, or if he is tooled up he could probably take it on. Go with the assault cannon dreads. I didnt say convert both but you should do one or the other.
hmm I dont happen to have any Heavy support slots on my list so im going to test out 2x furiouso's drop podded and see how that fairs.
When It drops I'll launch out smokes to ensure its survival, ofcourse I have much other larger threats in my army to help it out. Overall it is a choice that I take, because it was the cheapest anti tanking punch support i can get for elites heh.
To answer the first posters question, a friend of mine always takes his Furioso in a drop pod and he makes back his points and more at least 75% of the time. Just remember to upgrade to the heavy flamer on the models. That way even if they get killed on the turn af`ter they drop in, they can at least drop a template first.
As to the other question, I don't believe that any special characters can buy a transport unless it states they can take say a command squad which can take the transport.
