hey everyone i was just thinking how to make my wolf lord and i came up with this:
wolf lord Phil
belt of russ
space marine bike
wolf tooth neclase
wolf tail talisman
total: 196 points
what do you think? im not sure what exactly to give him ,this list came first to my mind.i need some advice on this.any kind of comments are welcome,if you have a better idea post it !
first off dont liust individual wargear costs just the overall cost. which happens to be 196 pts which is pretty steep. meltabombs are pretty useless as normally wolf lords don get anywhere near tanks, I personally think rune armour is to expensive to take but thats up to you. Wolf tail talismans are pretty much useless but then again its extremely cheap.
Otherwise i think its ok, but i dont use bikes very much, im assuming you are goin to join it up with storm claw bikers.
That is pretty steep for a lord.
The wolf tail talisman and and meltabombs are what I would drop first.
Biker lords don't need runic armour as much as footsloggers so I would consider dropping it (though I love it too).
However, he will slao be a combat monster with high movement. You will have to take a storm claw biker bodyguard otherwise he will die so quickly.
I find that if you intend to use a biker lord you have to build your list around bikes, there is no point in having a footslogging army with just the lord and his bodyguard on bikes.
Pretty much. he costs a lot of points which he may not earn back.
The point is a biker lord with bodyguard make a very powerful assault unit but they cost a lot of point for only 6 members max (5 bikers and the lord).
You would practically also have a storm claw biker pack to provide support for lord and bodyguard.
When a lord is on a bike you really have to make your entire army mobile (either by using bikers and wolf packs and/or using a rune priest to gate units around).
This will lead to a very small force that may be too outnumbered to be effective (but on the other hand it can work very well).
If that makes any sense (hell, i'm not sure it does and english is my native language).
Nothing, that keeps him cheap and goes a long way to buying another storm claw biker.
He will do fine, just turbo boost up the board, hopefull survive any shooting and assault.
I even think you can drop the Belt of russ and wolf tooth necklace and put that on another HQ.
This guy (as a biker) is most effective eating trough troops. Him being in a squad and turbo-boosting also gives him cover to shooting, and in cc he will just strike first and kill stuff before it can hit him.
I don't like jack of trades HQ's.
I like a HQ+Tank killer HQ and a Infantry Killer HQ.
That was that IMO,
I second what wulfbanes said..
Keep him alone though, as soon as oyu put him in a squad he becomes a unit and can get shot upon even if he's not the closest model..
Having him alone makes him cheap enough to earn his points back by going after your opponents devastators that you usually wouldn't be able to get to until later in the game..
Also I would field an other bike squad as a separate unit just to give him the possibility to join it when it's tacticaly better then having him alone..
I second that as well,
although, he need to be within 6" of an own unit to not get shot, so there is a need for something as fast as him to stay within 6", and then I find that you just can stiff him in the unit, they are dying first anyways .
