Has anyone made a Drednought army yet?

Like an army based entirely around drednoughts. And if so how did you equip them?

If you take heed the wisdom of the ancients then you can take dreadnoughts as Heavy Support choices. However if you take the dreadnought as an elite then they have to be Venerable.

Theres a guy at my store who is currently building a chapter based around 6 dreadnoughts (he calls them the Sons of the Dragon - very cool paint scheme).

I imagine that you could field them in any combination depending on what the type of army you want to field. You can either make them shooty with the TH/ TWL & ML combo or you can make them close combat dreads with the FC/ CC dreadnought weapon & AC combo. Or you can do a combination... if you're into that sort of thing i guess.

It sounds like an interesting army idea. I personally find dreadnoughts to be fire magnets, and not worth their bulk in points but If you're going to field 6... well... that drawback is eliminated.

    Cheers

This BA list comes to 1500 exactly, everything can deep-strike. It works best if you pair up a Furioso with a regular Dread:

    HQ:

    Chaplain, Reclusiarch
with bp, frags, meltas, jump pack
Death Co. with bolt pistol & ccw, jump packs

    ELITES:

    Furioso Dreadnought
    with flamer, extra armour, smoke
    Drop-pod, Storm bolter, PotMS

    Furioso Dreadnought
    with flamer, extra armour, smoke
    Drop-pod, Storm bolter, PotMS

    Furioso Dreadnought
    with flamer, extra armour, smoke
    Drop-pod, Storm bolter, PotMS

    TROOPS:

    Tactical squad 1
Sergeant with Terminator Honours, power fist ,bp
    9 Marines, bolters
    with meltagun and frags
    Drop-pod, Storm bolter, PotMS

    Tactical squad 2
Sergeant with Terminator Honours, power fist ,bp
    9 Marines, bolters
    with meltagun and frags
    Drop-pod, Storm bolter, PotMS

    HEAVY SUPPORT:

    Dreadnought
with assault cannon and storm bolter
    with extra armour, smoke
    Drop-pod, Storm bolter, PotMS

    Dreadnought
with assault cannon and storm bolter
    with extra armour, smoke
    Drop-pod, Storm bolter, PotMS

    Dreadnought
with assault cannon and storm bolter
    with extra armour, smoke
    Drop-pod, Storm bolter, PotMS

I've also got a 1500 list that uses a Venerable Dread as HQ, 3 Furiosos, 3 ass-can Dreads as Troops, and 3 las-can Dreads as Heavies, all in drop-pods. It's not legal, but I've love to use it at some point..

I have often found only one way for dreadnoughts to be effective is to use drop pods to create havoc on enemy lines. (esp tau) Drop them down and pour firepower into the nearest unit.

I love this man. I wonder if he also believes that the Dragon that was fought and gave living metal hands to the founder of the Iron Hands was a Necron C'Tan and that the Iron Hands and the Adeptus Mechanicus will one day be split from themselves and from the Imperium when the Dragon awakens...

    I'm crazy, though.

Also, about that Army consisting of nothing other than Drednoughts... that would be my dream 40k army (aside from Armoured Company being made 100% legal). However I would rather there be mini 'naughts as Troups (groups of 1-5 small versions of 'naughts) and Heavy 'naughts as Heavy support. Then for the HQ a 'naught that is geared out as an army commander.

But, if I were to take up 40k again (and win the lottery) I would make an army almost entirely consisting of kinds of 'nought models. The HQ would be Tech Marines which were encased into 'nought bodies, and the troups would be "space marines" that look like miniature 'naughts.

Though, my drednoughts would look totally evil and chaos-esque.

In the rulebook you have a big photo of a space wolves army based on dreads. It is a really cool army, check it out!

SW can have their ven dreads as HQ so that army has a dread as a commander!

Its called Terminators, and the army is Deathwing. Unfortunately, they cant take dreads as heavy support.
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:

    1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant

    2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers

    3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC

Who knows? Maybe that could change when and if a new Dark Angels codex comes out...
