I'm still working on my new chapter (remember I'm still real new) and I was think about having lots of banners with no rea rules pertaining to them.
What do you think so far?
They took me a long time but since I have a lot of experience painting on flat surfaces, it came naturally to me.
I still need o find out where to get weapons for their free hands. Sticking a bolter there looks bad. Everyone was encouraging me to try 'converting' so I thought I'd I'd give it a go. Remember I might be good at art and painting but when it comes to modelling, I have no idea still.
Great job on the painting! I like the theme. Keep it up!
I really like your banners mate. I have a couple that have no game effect other than make one squad look more dangerous than another (heh heh heh).
I would consider an auspex or something for the free hand. If they are supposed to represent models with a bolter, then you really should have the bolter on him somewhere. don't forget WYSIWYG rules.
Beware the Agapanthers!
Codex Astartes: More a guideline than a rule...
Nice job on the banners. I think your paint looks a little too thick, it might be just me though because they are painted really well. The banners are brillant for freehand, for someone who has only started painting recently they are brillant. Are they catachan heads you used?
As to what you could put in the free hands, an auspex has been suggested, but a bolt pistol or plasma pistol would both look great, but if it was me I would go for the chainsword as if he was prepared to defend the banner up close and personal!

Yeah, that paint is too thick. As I said, I'm used to painting on large canvases and when it comes to games workshop paint, even 50 layers of thin white doesn't seem to work. I'm sure it is something I'll get used to though.Originally Posted by chemicalcaveman
Yes, they are imperial heads, I won the figures of ebay.
It willbe a while before I have an entire army as it takes me around a day to painy each one plus I am getting an XBOX 360 so that'll slow things down.
I will however post what I have so far - give me around a week.
nice painting on the banner and it looks great. how long did you take to do them ??
