Hello i have been playing IG for a while now and i have discovered deamonhunters who pwn the combat area, i have 1000pts of guard with 3 stormtrooper squads.
I am planning to make my army into deamonhunters so that i do not get mashed in combat and that i can defend my shooters from deepsrikers.
My army list idea is:-
Brother captain-no retinue
1 grey knight squad with 5 grey knights---125pts
1 Stormtrooper squad with 10 troopers and grenade launcher--115 or so.
5 units of IG 300pts with around 100 pts of heavys
40pts for platoon command
and fast attack of 5 grey knights deepstriking-125pts
is this a good idea for an army list, i would add more IG to make it 1000pts maybe using a leman russ.
or should i go for the new tau empire box set and have inducted IG to help and defend against combat units.
The veteran DH players suggest using GK only in FA slots b/c they're too expensive to leave on the ground in the open. They're no more durable than basic tactical marines in power armor. That's tough, for sure, but they're 1 2/3 the cost of a single tactical marine...
I plan to use IG in my DH army. But only 2 platoons set up as follows:
command section with LC
2 squads with VS, PG, LC
Toss in a LR
This is for my 2000 list. 3 squads of mobile ISTS's fill out my troops and 2 squads of FAGK with 10 marines, a justicar, and an incinerator.
I think inducted IG serve only to fulfill the long range fire support needs.
as far as AF squads go, IST's can do it better so you don't need to field them unless you want to go minimal on points to satisfy your 2 troop requirements in order to take an IG heavy or FA choice.
I am going to have to agree with the top nineth poster...
-first it seems like you are taking the Brother captian just to fulfill requirements, why not drop him and pick up a command platoon.
-Second you only have 2 troops, 1 fast attack, and 1 HQ of Daemonhunters, which you are would be allowed to take as allies if your list was Imperial guard.
-Third you are taking inquisitional storm troopers, which are not as good as imperial stormtroopers (armory is more expensive, and they don't get free krak grenades)
-Fourth your GK squads are too small...max them out, GKs die just as quickly as space marines, they just kill more while they are alive, but if the squad is small they wont be alive for long.
-Fifth your list seems like a guard list without some of the coolest units, If you play straight guard you could still use vets, and a Basilik. Since you have Guard you don't really need Daemonhunter HS slots, and a teleporting squad of FAGKs and GK termies should give your guard the CC kick you need.
Now I hope you ally up with some GKs, but don't sacrifice what makes the guard good to do it, Play the guard with the doctrines of your choice, and add GK. You just have more options in the long run. However once you get a hang of GKs I say join our force, but if you are going to do a halfway combination , use the gaurd as the base half.
Thx for the help
Is it legal to have a fast attack a Hq and a troop from demonhunters but still use all the IG stuff?
Now I have to disagree. The short answer is Yes, and the long answer is that you have to take the Imperial Guard as your main list, and then you may take up to 1 HQ, 1 Elite, 1FA, and 2 Troops from the allied inquisitional army. It is on page 21 of the Daemonhunter Codex...there is a box that titled Using Daemonhunters as Allies. If gives you all the rules right in there.Originally Posted by MiketehFox
your 5 GK's cost 150 points as the justicar is a MUST to the unit
And I do agree with most here, take them as allies in the main IG force or get some GK HS.
