I'm Building a custom general. What weapons should i give him? Maybe 2 pistols, Storm bolter, plasma gun? Sent feedback.
It depends on how you are going to use him. If your using him for leadership a bolter or stormbolter is good but if you are going to do something like deepstike him a bolt pistol and power weapon would be a good choice, hope I helped.
well i plan to keep him out of harms way. what does everyone else think?

If you plan to keep him out of harms way, then you are very wise. A good beginning IG general make use of the HQ's leadership boosting abilities and keep him out of sight.
My General usually has a Bolt Pistol and a CCW and nothing else except for Iron Discipline which really isn't an "upgrade" per se. He really doesn't need anything else because I hide him.
A good tactic is to make sure that you take a Company Banner and a Master Vox (Some people disagree about the Master Vox) and keep as many of your Fire Support and Anti Tank squads within 12" of him as you can. This will make it very very unlikely that they will run away.
BUT, I'm going a bit too far here, you just wanted to know how to equip the general and I'm trying to tell you how to equip the whole squad.... sorry.
The onl reason to keep a HSO out of harms way is to use a vox/master vox system, in which case you want to keep him out of sight, in whaich case any wargear is a waste of points

my standard usually is junior officer, honorifica, iron discipline, company banner, and a mortar... i like mortars in my command squads, one dead marine and they're paid off as well as the perks of firing with no line of sight which plays towards keeping your commanding officer out of sight, out of mind.
I give my officer a powersword & storm bolter. I'd rather keep him out of the way, but things don't always work out and the chance to kill a meq for a couple extra points seems to be worth it to me. As for the retinue all gernade launchers. it is decent mobile firepower, and I just like the look of my commander surrounded by his harem. . . (bet you can't guess wich model line I use. I'll give you a hint it's not cadian. . .)

I use the exact same tooling as Certemplar just described. Hide, provide leadership and maybe bring a mortar. While the mortar is probably the worst heavy weapon we have available to us, it usually gets it's points back... though not by much.
I see no pint of master vox or the whole vox network if you play grenadiers, after all their Ld is same as officer's. Wut do u think? Ogryns too, I mean chances are they will probably pass all the test if each squad has a sergeant or a leader of some sort thats why vox isnt needed
