I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on including Marneus Calgar in an Ultramarine army. Personally, from past experiences I don't think he is that good for how many points his worth but it would be good to other peoples opinions about the revered chapter master.
he kinda makes me laugh, hes initative 5 yet has TWO powerfists...heheh.. he could at least get a CC weapon also to put it to use..haha (this is coming from an ork player so id utilize the initive and just get soem better HQ.. like the invincable chaplin.. because we all know power weapons win assault:shifty: )

marneus gets worth it at about 2000+. At that point your really just bringing a master with 4 wounds and a neat special ability. certainly in smaller games he is just too expensive.
Take life seriously, its lethal.
I just bought him for the model... I never used him in a battle yet.

Calgar is worth his weight in gold IMO.
He makes a great leader, sure, the poerfists do make a mockery of his I5 but its his 4th wound that makes him special (and is what saves him).
He actually makes a great character killer.
Give him a terminator command squad, and he rocks. He gets like 6 powerfist attacks on the charge, with 2 re-rolls to hit (2 master-crafted powerfists gives an extra attack and 2 re-rolls to hit), and his terminators get another 12 to 30 attacks... that's got to hurt. Yes, he's got low init. But 4 wounds and the 5+ inv. save is hard. real hard.
Ofcourse, in anythung under 2000 pts he'd cost too much.
