I need advice about assault squads. Does anyone use them in place of land speeders. If so what tactics are employed.
Any help will be appreciated
i use assault squads WITH landspeeders.
i have a full 10men assault squad and two landspeeder tornado's (resulting in 3 fast attack choices) because of the speed of landspeeders they can keep up with the assault squad and give the tageted squad hell before you sent in the assault squad in to clean up and destroy the enemy. because you have the tornado's individuelly you can aslways detach one from the "strike force" and let it do other things.
I have two assault squads (10 man) to compliment my death company. They are more expensive than a landspeeder but last longer and with melta bombs can be far more effective against any type of target.
As for tactics, move fast and try to get behind some area terrain so you are out of site. Wait until a target gets into charge range and then pounce. Try not to get bogged down and try to wipe a squad out in TWO assault phases. That way you get to charge after consolidating. If you enemy look weak and are like to fall in one phase try and position your troops so you can get into cover or into another assault with your consolidation.

i deep-strike a five man assault squad with two flamers. though it usually does well, it's risky, and if there aern't enough decoys they get decimated.
TAU PLAYER - GREY KNIGHTS PLAYER - WOOD ELVES PLAYER (kind of)

i use an eight man squad w/ 2 plasma pistols and a Pfisted serge. i ussually ad an jumppacked chaplain. next i have two Tornado's each having their own FA slot.

8 man assault squad, vet with powerfist, led by the 2 wound chappy with a jump pack.
Basically they maul anything in close combat (unless im playing my iron warriors opponent with some 5 attack str 8 powerweapon wielding I 6 lord) and can get there pretty quickly.
I use them with my rhino mounted tactical squads. The rhino provides mobile cover and drops off the tacticals. tacticals procede to rapid fire into the enemy. Assault squad flies around the rhino, fires off assorted pistols, and assaults. Then tacticals join the fun with their own vet w/powerfist (if there are no other targets present).
Its a lot of fun ^_^
Then again I've had my bad moments:
1.) Got assaulted by tau kroot, failed almost every save expect for chappy (who survivded 4 turns under kroot assault, made me proud).
2.) Flew into difficult terrain to claim objective vrs crons, I rolled 6 ones

I've got two ten marines squads, use em to take out enemy veciles and their supports, or if your main force is attacking head on pu the assults 2nd rank, and jet em onto of the enemys first rank, gives u time to manover and can deal out some nasty damage

i use a 5 man assault squad w/meltabombs because theyre relatively cheap (the meltabombs) and great at destroying vehicles in assaults (though sometimes it costs a marine or 2) i usually use a termy squad to pull as much fire from my assault squad as possible so they dont get shot up...all else i can say to you is dont leave em open after an assault try and finish then go into cover (someone already went over this sorry)! a jetpack chaplain is great as well..hope this helps
8 man assault squad
+Vet Sergeant with power fist and bolt pistol
+7 with bolt pistols and close combat weapons
This squad ALWAYS does well for me (mind you, I play Flesh Tearers, so they're a bit better than they normally would be). Sometimes, I'll even take it like this (before people cry idiocy on me, know that I took this unit to a tournament a couple of weeks ago and placed 2nd overall);
10 man assault squad
+Veteran Sergeant with power fist, melta bombs and bolt pistol
+9 with bolt pistols, melta bombs and close combat weapons
Comes to a hefty 270 points, but this unit WRECKED everything it came up against, especially when supported by the usual Death Company... Mmm....
Again, use search, post in those threads.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
