Just wondering what your oppinions are on about taking a melta or plasma which will complement a powerfist?
Melta! If you are planning on assaulting you need to have the Assault weapon. If you drop pod in a whole squad of bolters (7/8 ) and Meltas (1/2 w the trait) and a fisted sergeant you can cause a whole lot of hurt on the arrival (shooting) and then if you are charged, or charge on the next turn the fist will bring the hurt in CC! Best of luck.

Its a all depending on what you want to do with that squad. Is the Powerfist there to have some punch (haha) as a charge deterrent? do you plan on assaulting?
If your game plan is to sit back and shoot a lot, then plasma is a good choice(with risks) nothing is more frustrating than rapid firing, missing both and losing your marine.
but if you plan on moving forward and assaulting, then melta is a great choice, and it gives you some very nice anti-tank power with your powerfist. You really can't go wrong with melta. At rapid fire range, it has only one shot less, and there is no danger of overheating, it gives you that extra punch against vehicles.
I personally only take meltas, they're just plain more reliable in my opinion.
Hope this helps

WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
Thanks for the advice... My entire army is assault oriented, so considering what you said, i will most likely go with the meltas. Do you think its necessary to keep the powerfist if im packing a melta, maybe i should downgrade it to a power weapon to save points.
The Powerfist is great in case you get into close combat with something big and can't quickly kill it in shooting. The Meltagun is very short ranged, so you'll likely get only a single chance to fire it before getting assaulted by whatever you shot at. When that happens it's great to have a Powerfist in the squad, since it means you'll at least have a chance at doing damage.
Why do the survivors remain anonymous -- as if cursed -- while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives.

Staring Space Wolves, the Grey Hunter pack I put together uses plasma a lot,
2 GH with plasma pistol and power fist,
1 GH with plasma gun,
5 GH with bolters,
Wolf Guard Leader with plasma pistol and power fist,
HQ Wolf Guard Battle Leader with plasma pistol and power fist,
ho ho ho merry Plasma to all, and to all a good fist.
Yes I am having problems with the over heating bit because the power fist gose when it dose, but still I am having fun.
And yes this my be puting to many (eggs) points in ones (bascket) Rhino, Mybe in the future I will get another GH pack in another Rhino, but I will split up all the plasma between the two squads.
Oh yah to many %#&*ing points.
Well to compliment your powerfist of course the meltagun is the better option if you wish to charge in.
The melta is nice to fire off before chargin in because it can help take off a wound, especially against high toughness opponents where every wound you take off helps alot.
But if you didnt have the powerfist and wanted my opinion in general about the two weapons then i would say plasma over melta.Longer range and more shots and just a whole lot more flexible.
I'd say melta also as it is useful for hitting bothersome skimmers whom you have to roll sixes to hit (in cc).
Ask yourself why in the world would you trust a win loss record? Playing them yourself is the only way to tell.
The true joy in the game is playing down to the last model, no matter the odds.
I would say keep the fist. Unless you know you are gonna be fighting Terminators or something that has a sortve low toughness, the power weapon cannot do much against Tyrants, Tanks, Dreads... Fists go well with everything!Originally Posted by Felicitouslime
Powerfists are great for simply bashing normal Marines too.
From Tactical Marines it requires an average of 12 attacks to kill a single enemy MEQ.
A powerfist requires an average of less than 2.5. It is therefore about 5 times as efficient as the normal people.
