Ive been thinking, and its starting to occur to me how effective TYBB can be when put in a drop pod. When you land u can rapid fire the enemy to death and if he charges you he'll be facing a grip of attacks coming back.

Whats TYBB. if its a tac squad tooled up with bolters then yes they can be devastating.
Only the weak tell tales of how strong they are...
TYBB = trust your battle-brothers...
"I have died a thousand deaths, and I will die a million more..."
I've been experimenting with that combo (tybb & drop pod), and while it seems pretty nasty, it comes at a hefty price tag (maxed squad, plasma/melta, vet sgt+power fist, tybb, drop pod = 250), and at the end of the day it's 'just' a squad of marines, who are going to fall to shooting eventually.
I haven't actually managed to give it a shot in battle yet (I'm still painting my scratch built drop pod), but when I have, assuming this thread is still vaguely active, I'll get back to you about it.
My major worry about it, if you're going for a tournie/power army, is that you're mixing squad roles (making them decent at both cc and shooting), which just isn't point effective when you could 2 seperate squads that could do either role better.
Of course, I ususally play decidedly friendly, fluff-based armies, so that isn't usually a problem...

The price of these squads is basically the problem. For the same price as TYBB you could upggrade your sergeant and give him a powerfist.
When you compare 4 powerfist attacks to 9 normal attacks, the cost just doesnt justify itself. Worse still, you lose your extra attack charge bonus when you do charge.
As with most things in our codex, there are some situations where this ability comes in handy. A good example is guarding terrain from large broods of nids who dont have flesh hooks (frag grenade equivalent).
However, if were talking effectiveness, the 30 points your gonna pay on a squad of 10 would probably be better spent elsewhere.
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
I would have to agree that pointwise its just not a really good trait. Were I to be going the drop pod route I'd much sooner go with Take the fight to them for my trait. I dont loose my charge bonus, can still rapid fire upon landing and still have 2 attacks minimum if charged. And the 30pts I save will pay for the drop pod. Further more if podding the squad I'm not gonna be doing much long distance shooting so the loss of 24" range is negated.Originally Posted by minus_t

A bolter round for all that oppose the Emperor.
I dropped trust your battle brothers. I was paying roughly 45-50 points a game to give it to guys who did not have bolters (Heavy weapons, snipers, commanders, terminators...). I now have Cleanse and Purify (which cost nothing cept heavy weapons cost), and that works great! I also take suffer not the alien to live (1pt per Marine instead of 3), and even the guys mentioned above benefit from it.
I think Trust Your Battle Brothers is too defensive. Losing that charge attack can really mess up even the simplest of assaults.
Bolter Blasting Blizzard = Victory
what about giving the sgt a bolt pistol and the rest bolters?

actualy what i do is use take the fight to them and cleanse/ purify
basicly i drop down and rapid fire with two plasma guns and pistols normaly
if i get charged i still have a power fist and 16 normal attakcs
basicly i exchange rapid fire for TYBBplus extra attacks on charge for free
