Ok this is a really stupid question but then again i just started........
Say u make up a chapter, could u just play it with Dark Angel rules??
First there are no dumb questions, only idiots who either dont ask their questions or idiots who dont listen to the answers to their questions...
As for your question, you can use DA rules to represent a succesor chapter (though only DA have ravenwing and deathwing so thats a no on them.) with a different colour scheme. You cannot make a DIY chapter with traits/disadvantages and then use DA rules. The DA, BA, BT, and SW are four chapters that do not follow the codex astartes as many other chapters do. Hence gtheir very different organisatins and rules.
I do hope my answer does not hinder what your trying to do for your marine army.

Personaly I dont think its a dumb Qs, I would be ok with it, it doesn't give any unfair advanteges. so yes I would battle against it, actualy maby I aready have, now that I think about it.
Maby GW will release that option or idea in future White Dwarfs or rule book.
Or have they already ?, I cant reamember.
dude you can use any chapter rules you want but you just can
Thanx for the answers
If you want to play Dark Angel rules but not Dark Angels, play a Dark Angel Successor Chapter. But you cannot mix with the traits in the regular Space Marine Codex.
If you want to paint them your own colour scheme and use Dark Angels rules, well thats absolutely fine.
But if you try and do that in tournaments some wont allow it,and you do get the occasional tigh ass player or some fluff freak who wont play you.
Have fun doing your army man!
Yeh I agree with everyone here. My one addition would be that although you can't mix and match for tournies etc, there is nothing to stop you doing it for house rules or campaigns. Campaigns are a great oppertunity to use new and innovative ideas, and it adds a personal touch. It more fun too
