Which would you take as your only tank in a 1000pt balanced marine force, a vindicator or a predator annihilator with heavy bolter side sponsons?
I would like to hear peoples preferences and the reasoning behind them, thanks.
Here are my thoughts, If you are taking 1 tank get the bang for your buck.
The vindicator is good with good cover to keep it alive to keep that devestator cannon kicking out rounds, so its best suited for urban combat or an area with tons of terrain keep in mind too its ordinance, is scatters... its scatters even more when you move.. The predator has your twin-linked lascannons, and your heavy bolters.. so you can move 6" AND fire all your weaponry. a tank in 1000 points has to be useful enough to warrant 10% or more of your points, and a vindicator is just too iffy outside its perfect "cityfight scenario" to be balanced enough not to get killed off before it can make its points back for you.
^agred - Predator all the way.
To be honest i don't think that i would take Either in 1000 pts as they would be to fragile, however if it is a choice then it would depend upon the terrain as Urbanknight has said.
If i had to choose one then i would probably take the Annihlator due to the fact that it has better range than the vindicator also the fact that i donot know what army that i would be going up agianst might make it usefull.
However if i was choosing the tank i would either have sponson mounted Lascannons to make it a tank killer or take a destructor with sponson Heavy Bolters that way it will be dedicated to one roll either anti troop or anti vehicle.
A well balanced 1000 point marine army does not contain only one vehicle. It contains none, or at least 4.
Defensively, our vehicles blow goat chunks. Taking a single vehicle is basically handing free victory points to your enemy. They are far to easy to destroy on a single hit (except speeders). Because of this, when fielding marine vehicles you need to deploy many of them to ensure they arent all annihilated on the first turn.
TO actually answer your question, if you were to take one of those 2 tanks in a 1000 point list, it really depends on what else your packing. Generally though, the pred with HB sponsons is your most well balanced choice in a 1000 point list. Still, id urge you to rconsider taking one in a 1000 point list unless you are fielding at least 3 other vehicles.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
I'd take a devastator squad over either tank; they're much more durable and pack more of a punch depending on your games situation.
If you have to pick between the two tanks though, go with the Pred Annihilator; its extremely mobile for a tank (thanks to Heavy Bolters counting as defensive weapons) and holds a much longer range than the vindicator, making it more effective in the early game.
