I've just finished a set of the old Devastators and am ordering some more single models as I want specialised squads. I had a bit of trouble getting the fit right on the plasma cannon and heavy bolter models. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on this or could tell me if the new Devastators were any easier to work with. I also wondered if they were all plastic rather than a mix of plastic and metal. Can you also advise if the single models you can purchase on line are like the ones in the old Devastator box or if they are the new ones. Thanks for the advice.
New ones are still a mix.
I don't think they're very easy to put together, but then again, any model with sizable peices of pewter isn't...
The heavy bolter and plasma cannon took awhile to set correctly due ot the size of the peice...And my plasma cannon still falls off every once and awhile in transport to and from battles...
So no, I don't think they got any easier...
The ones online would definitely be the new models, GW does a pretty quick job with switching out their models online really fast...I have no idea what they do with leftover inventory, but they sure don't sell it online...
WHile only helpful to few people, consider this:
Landspeeder heavy bolters can be made man-portable with very little modding, as can the multi-meltas. Also, Imperial Multi-Lasers make great lascannons. Everythign there is plastic, and i have converted all but the MM to be marine-carried heavy weapons.
How? I had a friend who played gaurd (Multis) and a friend with a spare heavy bolter form his melta-speeder. I imagine taking a multi and splicing it with some plasma guns would yeild a belieavable plasma cannon. very good if you want a real tech-y (Or orky) look to your marines.
The scout set (new) has an HB, as does the chaos marines set that are plastic.
Aside form that, get someone (or yourself) to buy soem two-part exposy resin, hold the pieces together for five minutes, and never worry again (even though they probably won't line up right....)

Hmmm... I think I might try to use that muti-melta idea...thanks.
The Cannon goes back on pretty well now that I have my new fancy german glue, it's just a quick ten min fix.
The HB in the new scout set is plastic? Just two weeks ago I got a model that looks exactly the same as that one that was metal...but I guess they could have made new molds of the same figures...
