They seem like a very good way to fill up the HQ and Troop slots of the army list. What's the best way to equip and deploy them?
They are incredibly good for the pts IMO.
Well, I made a thread about this very matter a while back. I guess a new one is ok...
Here's what I have come to:
1) Small Sniping Units: 1-2 Last Chancer Specialists with Sniper Rifles, Deep Striked to take mission objectives, or distract the enemy.
2) Assault Groups: Give each Last Chancer Specialist a Power Weapon. They can take Officer Gear, so this works. Also add Plasma Pistols to break Armor before assaulting, and for extra attacks. This can be expensive and will draw fire.
3) Flamers, Meltaguns, and Demolision Charges: Pretty much just a special weapon team, just with Last Chancers instead.
4) My Favorite: Culexus Assassin + Psykers: This is the most expensive to pull off, but can be brutal. Take a Culexus Assassin. Make a group of Last Chancer Specialists and upgrade them to Psykers. Then, move the Culexus with the Psykers. The Culexus' gun will then get an obscene number of shots!! The Culexus does make Psykers around him take moral checks, but as long as Schaeffer is alive, they are fearless! This is perfectly legal, as far as me or 2 GW employees are concerened.
And remember, an army containing Schaeffer does not require a standard Command Platoon, so you can have a full Last Chancer Army! Sure, they can't take Doctrines, but you can still customize the hell out of them. Enjoy...
against orks or ig or tiranyds use the flamers against space marin, ers use some plasmas and demolitie charge or you can give theme some missil laugchers if you got th points
