I have an 1850 tournament coming up this sunday and I would like to bring a tank. I don't know what I should bring: Whirlwind, Vindicator, or Land Raider. Can you help me.
Well judging by your name i think you are DA. So i would not recommend using a LRC, seems like you wouldnt really need to transport anything. However it wouldnt be a bad idea to use it against say orks, and nids. If you prefer to use a regular LR not a bad bet, very durable, can give out some great fire power, and can transport some termies. A vindicator would be good against marines, but probably useless against them, considering it will probably get popped very early. But would be good against BA, because they are constantly on the move. A whrilwind would be a pretty good bet considering it is good/decent against all foes, armour and not. It's pretty much personal preference (what has worked good for you), how many points you have availible, and your opponent.
Okay. As for the enemies I play, I know for a fact that there will be at this tournament: IGx2, Necrons, Orks, Chaos Marines, Space Marines, Eldar or Dark Eldar. Anything here help to decide?
If your playing in a tournie, dont bother with a single vehicle. I guarantee, regardless what it is, you will lose it by second turn latest. As your only vehicle it makes for a juicy target that can be easilly picked out and easilly destrioyed.
Unless its a cityfight tourny of course, then a vindi is great.
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
Instead of bringing one, bring two, and instead of those vehicels select Landspeeder tornados.
Hmm 5 non MEQ armies, 2 IG, Orks, Eldar and DE.
Its Whirlwind time. Whirly's are great against all those armies and cost only 4.5% of your points at 1850. As it doesn't need LoS it can be your only tank and survive.
Against MEQ's it can still pin/cause afew extra wounds here and there. On balance if I knew that opponent list I would take one.
Chaosbrynn is right, you need alot of armour or none at all if you're going to have an open table slug fest.
If you are heart set on having a Basher, take a Vindicator, its flexible and menacing enough to draw fire power away from the rest of your army.
