Which bike squad should I choose?

    Hello everyone,

I'm unsure as to which bike squad (only taking one because of "Eye to eye" trait)
I should take. I have a well balanced army but lean towards an assualt preferance.
I have 3 full assualt squads. One will be counted as elites and the other two will be
Fast attack. Leaving me with 1 bike option. I already own a Speeder Tornado but
I would like to have bikes. I don't want to use them for assualt as this would bog
them down, just tank hunting. So would you recommend...

    Bike squadron:

Vet Sergeant with power weapon, melta bombs and bolt pistol
2x Marines with Melta guns and melta bombs
    1x marine with melta bombs
    182pts

    OR

    Attack bike squadron:

    3x Attack bikes with Multi-meltas.
    195pts

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Well if you take the first option you should have a power fist instead of the power weapon, as that will allow the sergeant to hide in the squad and still dish out some S8 damage himself, unless of course you are counting on him to use the melta bomb and solve issues that way.

I like the attack bike option, and with the T5 and two wounds per bike they could really spend some time frying the enemy with those big heaters! More wounds and bigger guns, makes the attack bikes sound pretty nice, so how bout that!

Now listen to the people who really know what they are talking about, and good luck purging evil!

Personally, I like the first option more, but you should change the Sergeants power weapon to a Powerfist if your going tank hunting.

Multi-Meltas are basically long range Melta-Guns, but sense bikes are fast getting within 12" shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Really, either option would probally work well, but I'd prefer the first option. Of course I'm rather new to Space Marines so I don't have any actual game experience with those two options, so I could be wrong.

    Just my thoughts though.

    Cheers!

Go with the attack bikes. I had a squad like that turboboost up against tau, take the entire army shooting at them for a turn, then pop a railhead and a fish (next turn) before they were killed.

Read the SM:Bike Tactica in the articles section of LO - Its really good stuff. IMO Go with the first option, add a powerfist to the sergeant and throw in a chappy as your HQ - You'll have a powerhouse spearhead for your army that will perform well.

i agree. go w/ attack bike squad. but possibly only 2 bikes. I have a 2 man squad w/ multi meltas and its amazing how far my enemies will go to kill these guys. theyre so scared when they see multi meltas closing in so fast.

also, them being fast attack is great as it means that they are put down last so by this time ur opponents big tanks are already deployed makng it easy to make a bee line to them.

I would go for an attack bike sq w/ 2 mm. This allows you to take 2 wounds before effecting the main objective of the unit.

Have you considered just 3 bikes, with 2 meltaguns and meltabombs? Bad enough that they can take down anything, but cheap enough it won't make you cry when you lose them...
If that sounds too weak, add an attack bike with multimelta.

Thanks guys for the guideance. I had bought some of the bikes already when it
occured to me... because of my trait and my army design I'll only need one
squad. So I needed help before I spent more money on models I wasn't going to
    use.

I wanted to keep the unit under 200pts if I could. So as it stands my options are...

    Attack bike squadron:

    3x Attack bikes with Multi-meltas.
    195pts

    OR

    Bike squadron:

Vet Sergeant with Powerfist, melta bombs and bolt pistol
2x Marines with Melta guns and melta bombs
    1x Attack bike with Multi-Melta.
    198pts

I'll have a little more flexiblity with the bike squadrons but I'll have more wounds
and attacks with the attack bikes if they get stuck in CC.

    So what do you think?

I like the second Bike Squadron. They can hold themselves in close combat well, and have a good amount of firepower and speed.

    Cheers!
