i have a question about dreadnought as in what arm to take lascannon or assulst cannon iam looking for something that will serve as a all around weapon
the assault cannon is for me the best all-round weapon for a dread. There is nothing an assault cannon can't handle.
Even MC can't stand against a few salvo's of the assault cannon.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
The Assault Cannon is definatley a more allround weapon then a Lascannon. Lascannon's main purpose is to pop tanks, but the Assault Cannon is effective vs. infantry and vehicles.
if you're going to drop-pod the dread then the asault cannon is certainly the way to go. on the other hand, 48'' of range on the lascannon is pretty nice if you're just foot slogging.
Take life seriously, its lethal.
well see iam going Iron Hands and my idea is to get dreads with missle and assult cannon but i play very defencive (like i use 2 whrilwinds with mine missles to channle emney troop movements
For a defensive army lasscannon and missile launcher is probably your best bet.
Assalt cannon and DCCW (the standard config) is a very good general set up but tends to get assault orientated because of the AC's short range.
I personaly field a dreadnaught with a lascannon and DCCW (I have a flamer on that because they are cool). It is designed to take out tanks and go for CC if the opportunity arises, since few things can take a dread in CC he does it rather well.
He does have mixed up roles but very rarely does it fail me, if you can't shoot down getting it in CC usually will.
I'd advise taking a looksy at this article by magnet_man on our forums. He has a great guide on how to use all of your Dreadnought options through the wonder of magnets!
But if ordering the right magnets, getting the drill stuff and green stuff for it is just a bit much for one model. I'd choose the assault cannon.
With the new rending rules, you can get an armour penetration roll of 18 if you get real lucky. But not only that but an Assault cannon can prove deadly to terminators, SM types, Monstrous creatures, well anything that can be shot at!
Whereas a lascannon can do all that but with only 1 shot

When I say jump you don't ask me 'How high?' maggot! You jump!
The best ways to take a dread are...
1) Standard - assault cannon and dccw (w/storm bolter) - if you plan to get near and/or assault the enemy
2) Long Range Support - TL lascannon and missile launcher - if you need fire support to take out vehicles/MCs (good for BT as they lack long range firepower)
Just out of curiousity, whats next? Maybe you can make an issue about the fact that GW didn't define the action of 'rolling' a D6 to actually mean dropping it in such a manner as to produce a random result; thus making it perfectly acceptable to just put them down with the face up of your choice?
