hey im new here and to the black templar. i havent bought any modles yet i dont even have the book but its comeing any way to the topic my straige is to have a maxed out number of black templar walk arcoss the table (like 60 or more) bolters fireing with a pred for heavy fire and just kill every thing like that would it work?
Wouldn't work at all. you would only get to fire 1 bolter shot per turn if you move every turn, and then you are stuck in CC with troops that are only really average there. When you get the codex though, tell us more about which specialized units you would want to use, like assault squads, bikes, HQs, and whatnot. It's alot easier to give you advice that way. I would look at the SM tactica, and cruise the articles about units you think look cool at the moment, so you can decide whether or not to use them.
Hope I don't sound like a b****.

Most people get Black Templars because they want to get into close combat, that's where Black Templars specialise. Your walking across the board plan would work if you used 20 strong crusader squads (the basic troop type) all equipped with close combat weapons and bolt pistols. This means that you will vastly outnumber (not a good thing for the opponent - especially if they are being outnumbered by space marines!).
Each crusader squad can take basic space marines and scouts whihc are both very good in close combat for troop types. Then you have the compulsory empoerer's champion which was born for close combat and will destroy any big thing that you may have to tackle, combined with a chaplain he can be even more effective.
If you wanted a bit of unit variation then there is ofcourse the sword bretheren, I see these guys as loads of little emporer's champions running around the board, and then there's dreadnoughts!
The only problem I can see you having with a horde army is destroying vehicles but if every cursader squad had a melta-gun you would be fine.
Or atleast that's my take
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door-
Only this, and nothing more."
So here is my "straige" for Orks against your Black Templars. I don't have the book or any models but... I wanted to give them all plasma pistols and power swords, have twenty 5 ork Mobs (I think that is what they are called) and wait in cover for my enemy to come to me. My 4 looted LandRaiders will all wait back and shoot at any tanks that may have been brought. I want to take an Ork Killer Kan as my HQ. What do you think?
4 looted land raiders!? What..um thats impossible...u can only have 1 looted vehicle unless u use defskullz and u cant have a killa kan as an HQ!?

Welcome to the BT's man. Firstly, if your planning to horde your enemy, you need to take crusader squads with 10 inititates and 10 Neophyte. You should equip the squad with a powerfist and melta. 60 marines running accross the fielf sounds great and all but isn't all that effective. Your units will need support or transports or else you will take to many casulties before you engage your enemy in an assault. Hope this helps and good luck with you BT's.

I know, but I don't have the Codex or any models so I am just asking based on what I thought would be cool, without any real idea of army comp or unit comp. That is what this thread was started for... right... ?:rolleyes:Originally Posted by HavenDan

Saying that, Chop suey - watch a few games before rushing in and making a choice and spending tons of dosh. IMHO get plain codex marines and lots of 'em with Heavy Bolters and Missile Launchers as must buys.

True. Just having a little fun. You are right, basic marines with the HB and Missle Dev squads can handle just about anything. Foot slogging accross the board, can end badly for just about any army, ask a Nid player. Space Marines with drop pods can get there really fast, and unleash rapid fire boltery death when they do, so that could be a good option. And Chop, check into Space Wolf boxed sets (Blood Claws/CC or Grey Hunters/ranged) when you do start buying models, you can get a lot of stuff with those kits.Originally Posted by King_Nerd
