    Converting Rough Riders

I was just thinking about the rough riders im going to put in my army. I of course dont want the horseback thing but wasnt sure what to do. Then i realized i have a kroot hound pack in my army, so why not put some ig on a kroot hound and call it a rough rider? The thing is i suck at this stuff and could use some advice on making it work, thnxs.

Well, Kroot Hounds always seemed like a large dog to me... not something you'd ride. But hey, Orcs ride wolves, so wtf.

What IG do you play? If you play Catachans I'd say get some Catachan HB gunner legs. As for a saddle... hell, ride bareback!

I just play simple cadians. Also, i consider the kroot hounds to be pretty strong and fast, so i think it would look decent, plus its original.

You can just get some or the straddle legs. Then if they don't fit on quite right you could green stuff a saddle on to fill in the gaps. I think they might look ok, no weirder then my friends guy riding a bear:shifty:

you might have some more luck sawing the legs in half at the knee, and again at the crotch to seperate the legs. That should give you some range to position them so they don't look too awkward, and then just green stuff in to fill in the gaps an make it appear more natural. Then just glue on a torso with an arm holding a laspistol, only cut off the pistol and put in either some sort of spear or maybe even just some carved sprue, whatever tickles your fancy, and ta-da! instant rough rider.

And if it's a kroot hound, consider using the rules for the xeno-mounts.

I'm not sure about the xeno-mounts... I just played against (another) IG army with rough riders, and they were in combat with me in turn two. Granted, I had sent a 40 pt speed bump command squad out in front, and they were charged by a tricked out command squad the next turn (and just annihilated!), now being without their lances... but fleet is worth something.

Hmmm... ok, so what troop should i use, just a basic shock troop?

Also im still fairly new to warhammer, i would have to keep the same basic base for rough riders right?

I am currently working on combing both a Cadian infantry box with a Wood Elf Glade Riders box to make some decent looking Cadian Rough Riders. If you think that that might work for you, I would encourage it. They look pretty good, and the horses are great horses too.

Well, I just finished my first rough rider.
    Here's a pic:

2 Plastic missiles for the forks,
    1 lascannon fr the body,
2 of the old heavy weapon wheels,
The handles are made of the handles from the heavy weapon sprue,
1 vox-caster speaker for the headlights,
The rest is made from plastic sprues.

Uh... Great conversion... but I think it has to be on a cavalry base... Ya may want to check on that.
