Obviously an army of Space Marines will have to fight for longer, because it all needs to be orgianised for a successful victory, than the Tyranids who would just run and and rip apart anything and everything.
My questions is roughly how long do battles last in the 40k universe? Do they last just a few hours, several days or do they end up fighting the same battle for months or even many years?
In our league we play to six turns. this generally last anywahere between 1.5 - 2.5 hours.
i ah dont think thats what he meant. I'ld say it all depends, just like how it is in modern day timesOriginally Posted by firewarrior76

I think he meant fluffwise, but I'm not sure.
Generally, from 1hr - 4hrs depending on the size of the game. Megabattles can even spand a whole day.
I think it would depend, from battle to battle. If an army is suprised assaulted, then the battle would probably be quicker, but if the battle was planned, or both sides new a battle was likely, it would most likely be longer because they would both have larger armies fighting in that paticular battle. It also depends on what you call a 'battle'. Is it a single fight, where before and after there's no fighting?
Or is it where there's two armies, fight it out more then once a day?
For example, in 15 Hours (a book) they've been defending a planet for over 10 years. Of course that could be considered more then one battle, but that's just an example.
Anyway, I would say from 30min - Years. Hopefully I was clear.
I meant fluffwise. Thanks for that. I'm trying to make some history for my chapter and I didn't want to make up something stupid.
I forget teh actual math, but, a friend an I did up soem figures base don approxamatley how long it takes for a model to move six inches, base don GW rough scale of 1 inch =2 metres (in fantasy at least..)... int he end, we conluded that six turns is more or less a few mintues at most of action.
This is probably becuase a game of 40k represent the crux of the action, where the final,d escisiveblwo in lande,d with the battlefield stretchign in all directions.

That's a pretty vague question, it's like asking he average battle time in a war today. Baghdad:2 days? Stalingrad, years....
It really depends on the size of the battle. Post a more specific size battle please.
BTW this should be in Fluff, not SM.
