Concerning Blood Angel honor guards and death company. Ok, This may not be
the popular option. Still I'd like to point out giving your honor guards and death
company, Jump packs and Bolters(with the option of power fists and a few power
swords) could break a squad even faster than assualting them.
Ok, Ok, I hear your protests but hear me out.
This unit with it's high mobility can easily jump behind units that fall easy prey
to bolter fire. Opening up on them, causing lots of shooting casualty. If your lucky
(good chance) they lose their Ld test and fall into your blades. If not you could
assualt next turn. Or be assualted this turn and hit back with a power fist and
power weapons. If you land in terrain that could help as well.
The biggest worry one could have is being shoot up waiting to assualt because
you rapid-fired this turn.
I believe if you support this unit well with others it could be very strong against non-
Even though you can do this with death company it could work better with a 10 man
honor guard with a sanguinary priest.
Sanguinary priest w/storm bolter and Exsanguinator.
Vet Sargent w/power fist and bolt pistol.
2x marines with plasma guns or melta guns
6x marines with bolters.
I have not tested this. It's just an Idea I was rolling over in my head. But by
all means play test this if you wish?
15 Bolter shots
4 plasma shots or 2 melta shots
but, then again...
10 bolter shots
4 powerfist attacks
27 ccw attacks (if you can get them all in combat, minus the priest's attack too)
Sounds pretty good too. :w00t:
Let me know your findings.
Well I got a chance to try this idea of mine. I took a Captain w/jump pack and an
Honor Guard with jump packs. I included NO CCW type weapons other than a power
sword for my Capt. I didn't need a vet. sargeant and I included a sanguary priest
w/Exsangulator and 2 Plasma guns. Here's how it broke down...
Captain with jump pack, Powersword, bolt pistol and combat shield
Honor Guard with Jump packs, 1 Sanguary priest with exsangualtor and bolter; 2
marines with plasma guns; 7 marines with bolters.
I tried this idea out on a friend who plays Orks. It was very expensive but the points
were 1850 and I could sort of afford it.
By the second turn he was already feeling the sting. I blew up a wartruk with 10 slugga
boys. Not all of them died miraculously. I left that unit to heavy bolter fire. My honor
guard landed into terrain the next turn right beside some more slugga boys going
about on foot. The 10 ork mob was dead at the end of turn 3. Scott saw his Orks
being killed without any casualties to me. So he deverted about 30 Ork after me!
While he was chasing me, my death company (which by the way took 3 casualties
from Rokkits the turn before. ) Now had no one shooting at them. Hee Hee
With the help of my Baal preditor and Dreadnought's missle launcher (lost the
lascannon on turn 1, from a lucky rokkit blast. ), my honor guard rapid
fired the Orks to death.
After that little display of fireworks every gun and assualt unit in scott's army was after
my Honor Guard. They were all dead by the end of turn 5.
They costed a ton but hey, they were fun and earned back their points. Whether they
are really worth it I don't know?
This is incredibly creative and original. Rep for you.
Yeah, I had a similar idea a few weeks ago, but I never really bothered asking about it or trying it out. Good job! Try it a few more times and see if it keeps on working! Rep cookie!
I would only use what you describe against armies such as orks, tyranids and similar armies to those.
Suiting them with CCW's is in most cases more effective then arming them with bolters.
Say you have a Death Company of 10 bolter marines,2 powerfist marines, and a chaplain.
20 rapid firing bolter shots,
bolt pistol shots
And you would be left standing there wide open for your opponent to fire volleys of shooting into you in their turn which could possibly hurt your squad.
But on the other hand if you had a Death Company with 10 marines with ccw and bp's, 2 powerfist marines, and a chaplain, they would do this...
13 bolt pistol shots,
Then they charge and get...
40 S5 I5 attacks from the normal ccw and bp marines,
Up to 6 I6 S5 attacks from the chaplain,
8 powerfist attacks.
And all of the close combat attacks have re roll to hits.
In most cases i would choose to go with the CCWs and BP's over the trusty bolter. But i can see where you are coming from and it is an interesting idea and would work very well against some armies.
Awesome! Thanks for the Reps! :w00t: I've been flirting with the idea for a wihile.
I like the look of a 10 man squad with jump packs and bolters running after the
enemy. It looks cool. I plan to try it again this weekend so I'll keep y'all posted.
i thought about that option a few times for BA, i think the plasma really makes it worthwile.
2000pts Orks 4-2-1
I'm no blood angels expert, but this idea has merit. It is a different approach to arming death company marines that few will have considered and leaves an interesting unit for you enemy to deal with. He/she has to decide if its worth diverting attention to the marines with jump packs that aint (as) nasty in HtH as bp+ccw equipped marines.
As with all things in 40k, when you use this unit will depend largely on the opposing army. Against guard it will be difficult to achieve much with shooting, and then the return fire is likely to be of the magnitude to destroy the squad in one go. The fact that guard will fill their deployment zone means blocking LOS with terrain is unlikely to work all that well. Against ork/'nids I can see this tactic working well - they can do big shooty damage with their bolters (woohoo for ap 5) and then stand up very nicely in HtH. Their mobility also means you can move them to where they are needed on the table.
Good idea mate, original. Fight other armies with this unit and let us all know how it goes
Your idea on bolter jetpackers will work just as well as a 'rhino of fury' does.
Initially you would have to now calculate what obtains more kills.
One turn you move 12'' and you got range to rapid-fire? Then yes its good, find out how many buggers you can kill.
Then the turn after, get ready for close combat, if not then you can be the one charging. Calculate then the kills you can achieve with the -1 weapon lost.
So the idea as said will work very well against low armoured enemies, against power armor... the only best bet is to use it for deathcompany... but... expect fire from bolters back ;0 but hey you got saves.
10 marines with bolters- double tap-13 hits, s4, ap 5 vs
10 marines with bp-6 hits, s4 ap 5, +30 attacks at s4.
That's what it comes down to. Now, if they are in cover, you may have issues, as they get to attack back or even go first.
It all comes down to initiative.
But since this is blood angels, keep in mind you'll be going before standard marines, 1/2 eldar, tau, IG, most chaos, most nids, necrons, and others, making your 40 attacks at s4 MUCH MUCH more valuable than 20.
16,000+ of Eldar (only need flyers)
7,000+ of Nids (want heirophant)
6,000+ of Space Marines (need rever titan)
4,400+ of Cygnar (all models for the faction)
1,500+ of Legion (just started)
