So im not the biggest fan of the ratling models ( but who is??!? ) I was thinkin of proxy'ing cadian snipers in instead of the ratlings. but then how would the ratling "rules" work with that? Do you think i would have troubles using these models instead of ratlings and still using the ratling rules? Does anyone do this currently? what has your oppenents reaction been?
Lots of people have posted on this. No one likes the Ratling models. They are a kinda lame idea anyway, though the unit is nice. I would not have any problem woth someone who used other models. If you really need an explanation for an opponent who is a jerk about it, try here. (Imperial Guard fluff for converted Ratlings.)
I hate the models, and am currently planning on using Jezzail models instead- to represent subhuman mutants. A tad more fitting than Space Frodo, and a lot better sculpted.
I have the same problem and somewhere the post is still floating around...anywho, use the cadian snipers, or model them so their kneeling/prone, that way any problems with WYSIWYG are minimized and you can always say that they've gone to ground.
also considering the fluff of the imperial guard (taken for thousands of planets, millions of cultures) who's to say that ratlings don't look different on a different planet? (ie they don't look stupid)
ya but then there is also the state line problem, 2T and 2S.
Yeah, but you can fluff around that too. Longbowmen back in the days when that was the uber ranged-weapon where often boys trained to do just that one thing from when they could hold a bow.Originally Posted by hardcastle
You could simply say they are youths who were trained to do one thing to the exclusion of all other things, like hand to hand, which would account for their relative flimsiness. They essentially became human sniper-shell deliver systems.
Or you could just ignore it.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
Maybe this is a dumb idea, but how about cutting down and filing the limbs/ torso of cadians to make "children" snipers. Kinda cool fluff, but with the problem of looking worse than the actual ratling models. If its done well tho it could look quite cool. Also, being children explains the ST2 T2 arguments.
It's a little thing called fiction. Besides, if a grown human being a soldier doesnt make you :x then thats pretty despicable, for all of us including me. People killing people is wrong no matter your age; to play a strategy board game in which the aim is to kill as many "models" as possible, often in a "fun" way (defiler crushing a marine to pulp, torching a whole row of guardsmen to cinders) and enjoy it, and then be disgusted by the idea of children soldiers seems to me, very arrogant. IMO. At any rate, I already said, it was maybe a dumb idea, so please don't point out something I've already drawn attention to.
Didn't mean to start a flame. I admit I kinda jumped on you there, and that was wrong. I should have read your post more carefully. Sorry.
I admit this game we play is violent and in a lot of ways sadistic, but we play it. The background and the combat is visceral and horrifying. However, I really think we can play a war game without feeling too guilty. It is just like a video game, but more personalized and 3D. I think we can also place certain personal limits on our fluff; war is necessary in some cases (sorry, human nature dictates it), but children soldiers I will not use.
Think I am rambling. Anyway, I believe about this game what I will, but I should not have attacked your post like that. For the record, I don't like war or 'grown up soldiers,' but I believe they are a necessary part of human life and indeed the premise of this game we play. I just feel that when designing fluff to fit stats, one can insert their moral scruples to some extent. For example, you could say your planet is all-white like GW's models are usually because they are supremacist; that would go against my scruples even in the context of this game, though it fits the Imperium's views.
My own regards to you for your rebuke.
