So i was thinking about getting back into warhammer 40k, but with exams comming up and not really having that much cash i wanted an army that i could build up slowly and have alot of fun painting and playing. Because this is not my first army i know kind of what to do but i am lost on the new space marines book. I liked the idea of having a fast moving army, as i played Speed Freaks before, but i found them alot more expensive then i first though with each unit needing a 15 quid buggy. The general idea behind the army (if bikes squads count as troops) about 3 units of 5 bikes each with a heavly armed bike with them. I would then try to use some assult maries to get some "bulk" into the army
Maybe i should have posted this on the army list forum but i am mainly looking for feedback for the idea and how this kind of army runs on the battlefield
Similar to my white scar army. in 2000pt games i run 2 chaplains, 1 on bike, 1 on jump pack, 3 5 man squads of bikes w/ attack bikes, 9 assault marines, 2 man attack bike squad, 2 land speeder tornado's and a predator destructor. Army is of course about speed so tactics are generally to overwhelm 1 side of the enemy so fast that they cant react.

Its all good, this is the right place.Originally Posted by Twiz89
I wouldnt play straight white scars. TYBB doesnt do anything for bike mounted models except give them counter attack. Counter attack isnt needed if you position carefully. You would be far better off taking a different traight to compliment be swift as the wind.
A bike army can be easilly done in stages, it is however still pretty expensive. For a full bike squad *wich you should definately use, trust me) you need to buy 2 bike box sets (3 bikes each, as you need 5 for a squad) and an attack bike. That means each squad, depending on where you live and where you order from can cost you up to 100 bucks each.
In any case assault marines dont compliment bikes all that well. They are a good addition to any force but there are other things that you would need to add to help out the bikes. This includes Speeders (LST's) and Devastator/fire-support squads. For a beginning army, 2 bike squads + a speeder + a dev squad or 2 fire support squads would be perfect. It will also be easy to expand from.

Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
