Welcome to Librarium Online!
In the codex, it says the vindicator is armed with the demolisher cannon and a storm bolter, but it says it can also purchace a pintle mounted storm bolter. is it really 2 storm bolters?
Space Marines are the gateway drug
If everyone makes fun of West Virginia, who does West Virginia make fun of?
I'm not sure about that. (haven't gotten codex yet). however, it would be a waste of points. you will always want to be shooting the demolisher cannon, so a SB is really of no use to you.
Et imperator Invocato Diabolus Daemonica Exorcist!
Yes it does give you 2 storm bolters if you pay for the extra one.
Imo there is no reason not to, the hunter killer missile is redundant but the extra SB is not.
Considering both the demo cannon and the SB are range 24" a vindicator with 2 SBs can do a lot of damage. The pie plate of doom can only cover so much, but very large swarms/squads can take a demo cannon to the face and still pose a threat, the 4 bolter shots can really make a difference, especially on very large swarms with weak armour like gaunts.
while we're here and thinking about vindicators, I was wondering how people felt about the ole' fellas. I bought a vindicator way back in the day when I was very small and just first starting the game ("that is a big gun. I want that.") However, I have never used it more effectively than as a fire-sponge. If I hide it, it does me no good, but if I bring it out, opponents throw everything they can at it to take it down (which, as anybody who plays predator-based tanks can doubtless relate, doesn't take too much). If I plant it "strategically" it gets avoided altogether.
So, while we've brought up this mystical weapon, I want to know...
a) are people using it?
b) if so, how do you get the most out of it?
De gustibus non est disputandum.
The Imperium Emporium: Jeb's Imperial Curiosities plog, starting with Grey Knights!
Its just like how to win a game of tic tac toe.
in tic tac toe you place your pieces strategically so that your opponent eventually loses because there are 2 ways you can win and he can only play 1 piece to block you with.
Same with the vindicator, it scares people, use that to your advantage, give them 2 options, nuke the vindicator with all they have so that it wont bomb thier land raider crusader, or take 3 rhino mounted tac squads to the face. If not tac squads then perhaps a drop podded dreadnought that does not get killed on landing at the front line because all the heavy weapons are pointing at the vindicator. Either way they lose, the vindicator has a great chance of popping that LRC and possibly anyone in it. Triple tac squads with plasma rifles make scrap out of most everything when rapid firing. And a dreadnought at anyone front line is a scary thing if that enemy is weak and shooty, like tau, because when it gets into CC its a rampaging beast and they cant railgun it, double for furioso dreads, Moriar on the charge is scaaary, think dreadnough with 10 max attacks + flamer AND meltagun.
So if you use your vindicator, make sure there are other threats your enemy has to deal with at the same time.
Edit: someone repped me! cool

Beware the Agapanthers!
Codex Astartes: More a guideline than a rule...
On the basic level the vindi doesnt tend to do too much because, as you point out, everyone shoots it ASAP.
But to be good ar the game you have to think more holisticly, as Sempervigilans says, if he is shooting your vindi, he isnt shooting something else, his tic-tac-toe or noughts and crosses analgy is very good
So use the vindi if you have other vehicle based ways of winning the game or at least doing a lot of damage, dont use it if the only other vehicles in your army is a single rhino, or a hiding whirlwind or a load od speeders or if you are entirely infantry.
Imagine the impact of 3 vindis in a 1500 points army, this isnt an inordinate amount of points spent on HS but is quite unmanageable for most armies
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Oh right , me and my friends use slight house rules, mostly we change stuff cause "thats not fun!".Originally Posted by rat of vengence
But ya, seeing as the vindi draws an incredible amount of fire, getting weapon destroyed is very very likely. At which point your vindi is now a predator with tac marine sitting on top and will probably be mostly ignored by the other side. Might as well have 2!. Least you can still kill stuff.
