Buddy of mine is looking to start a Necron force and I'm curious what I should be looking out for and what I should be using to counter his stuff. I thought there was an article but the link was broken and doing a search didn't seem to find anything useful.
So if there's a anti-necron tactica a link would be great, otherwise may we start one and Chaosbrynn gets another feather in his cap by turning it into an article? Thanks everyone.
May your aim be true, and your targets plentiful.
Get them in close-combat, and mow them down with powerfists. Terminators work exceptionally well here, as the only AP2 weapon necrons have (heavy destroyers) are rarely used.
Also, vindicators do wel. They can destroy whole squads in one blow, and their cannon ignores we'll be back rolls.
Basically anything that instakills a marine will do, as do power weapons and powerfists. Just watch out for lords with resurrection orbs or veil of darkness. The orb can resurrect anything, and the veil can be used for some nasty shooting tactics.
Don't take many vehicles, as EVERY gun they have has the potential to destroy it, no matter how high its armor value...
Not much for tactica, but I hope it helps...

There is a SM Vs Necron link in the sticky at the top but it doesn't seem to work.
Here's a good article on the subject. Not sure if its the same, found it in that article section.
Mainly you'll want as much stuff that will negate the 'I will be back' as possible. Whether that be things like close combat squads with power weapons, or masses of missile launchers.
Generally the Necrons make up for their lack of versatility by having weapons that can hurt anything. Even that lowly scarab squad can cause a Glancing hit on your Landraider and will probably cause quite a few, everything can be a threat.
As said before, Terminators can be powerful. The only major threats are the Monolith which has an ordance blast with AP2 in the hole, Heavy Destroyers who have lascannon type things and Paraiah who ignore all saves. Then when in combat you're Powerfists will prevent I will be back rollls.
Priority is to get the Necrons to their Phase out number. Ask your opponent what it is before you start and plan accordingly.
Therefore your first targets are Necron Warriors etc. Anything that counts as 'Necron'. BUT you musn't forget that things like Lords, Tomb Spiders and the Monolith are designed to drag this out by allowing more 'We'll be back' rolls.
I don't fight many Necrons and when I do I have the blessing of my Leman Russ' to do it  but they can be a poewrful force if used right, but have some bad weakness' if you poke in the right place.
Terminators, end of.
As a necron player I can tell you, we hate terminators (well, any 2+ save) with a passion as we have no reliable way to bypass it, we just have to pummel the unit until it cracks.
If you can you will want to kill the necron lord, he basically holds the army together so by killing him your life will be made much easier.
To take the lord out CC is the way to go, he is pretty tough but cannot stand up to a marine HQ.
just like said above.
CC is the way to go and the chaplin makes a very good choice then. Let him join an assault squad and watch how they get annihilated in one go. The Lord will probably have veil so he won't see that much CC. You'll have to kill him on one round with a powerfist and your chaplin and hope he still doesn't come back.
His scarabs should be killed by blast templates because they are vulnerable to blast or S6 weapons because they are just to annoying to not be ignored. When they still reach CC they won't do much except for keeping that squad occupied for 2 turns.
When he uses a monolith in a 1500 points game just ignore it but when the battles get large blast him to bits because otherwise he would get to many WWB re-rerolls. Just remember that the best way to kill a monolith are massed lascannons because he will pretty much neglate every other weapon. Or when you have him available use a vindicator.
Don´t mess with the dicegod
grey knight terminators. bring an allied squad and you'll be fine.
Take life seriously, its lethal.
My friend plays Necrons. The most annoying thing I have found is the Deceiver. It's only useful in 1500+ games, but I find I have to dedicate a turn to taking him out as he'll always move it into CC. PF's are about the only thing that can hurt it in CC with it's toughness so high. Also the Deceiver can break off CC at no penalty during your assault phase. So rushing Termies at it is about useless. Best tactic I've found is 2 las cannon dev squads. I tried ignoring it a couple of times, but he'll move it into any nearby CC and just rip my units apart. Luckily the SM don't have to fear much from it's other special powers as they have a high leadership.
If you aren't going against the deceiver than any weapons that just mow down troops, even if they aren't strong enough to stop the WBB rolls, are helpful. HB's are pretty good since they are cheap. Although the assault cannons on my Termies really do rip them up good. I've had some success with LST's. But they usually get broken up by turn 2 or 3.
One last thing, your friend's tactics will be pretty limited. There's only a few army configurations that work well with the Necrons. So once you find an army list that succeeds against him/her, you'll probably not change it much between battles.
