    Plasma Cannons

I’m thinking of adding a couple of plasma cannons to my BT crusader Squads and I’d like to know what is your opinions on plasma cannons are, how effective are they, r they worth there points, r they worth it with the risk of overheating. And any other pros and cons anyone would like to point out

    Thanks

Plasma cannons are awesome weapons, they can kill hordes and MEQs with ease.

I personally think its worth running the risk o overheating for such a great all round weapon, even though they do cost a bit.

+1 vote for the plasma. I love plasma and think they are very well worth the risk of over heating.

I also love plasma guns so I'll add another vote for them. The only thing that sucks about taking heavy weapons for BT squads is when you lose a marine and run forward. This could compramise your position so when you play your going to have to be carefull.

Pretty effective, especially if you face light vehicles or heavy infantry.
As they only fire once a turn, overheating isn't as major a concern like with plasma guns or pistols.

The chance of death to a plasma overheat is quite low for Spacemarines. However surviving the whole game looks quite scary.

    1/6 * 2/6 = 2/36 = 1/18
    Fire 6 times in 1 match, 6/18 = 1/3

So in theory every 18 shots you'll get one death. This leaves a 1 in 3 chance of death each match, if you get to fire each turn anyway.
If you run 3 Plasma cannons, expect to see 1 death from plasma.
(Roughly, probability never accounts for bad luck )

So in reality the risk against reward (Blasting the hell out of troops/termies :woot is low.
They are great weapons, only major drawback being the high cost.

Yep, plasma cannomns are worth the risk of overheat. Small chance of your marine actually dying, big chance of the thing killing a couple of models and earn its points back.

Especially against things as terminators (any variant) or obliterators they tend to do well, as well as agianst light vehicles such as rhinos and most other transport vehicles.

ive just got a quick question about plasma cannons.

If i shoot 4 plasma cannons at a tank, can i place the templates so that they overlap onto another squad, so i hit a tank and some unit members?

For me, when I use 4 plasma cannons, I can expect all 4 to overheat and kill themselves.
