Can a Chaplain equipped with a bike join a regular squad of guys and just move 6 inches?

Yes, u move at the speed of the slowest models in the unit.

He still counts as being on a bike when moving in terrain though (splat), so why would you want to?

Its a pretty evil rerollsupport with a 12" radius (no turboboost though since the entire unit cant charge or shoot in that case).
Im in a similar situation as this, only i would like him to support an assualt squad equiped with jump packs.
Looking to get the well titeld 'evil re roll' for close combat attacks + a charge.
Is it possible for my chaplain on a bike to join this assualt squad before the charge, to allow them the re roll skill? incresing the chance of a hell of a lot of attacks on the opponents?

I cant think of a rule that would stop a bike chappy joining an ASM squad, though I'm certain there will be problems with your opponent allowing it.
Jump infantry can opt to walk instead of jump, and I'd assume that would be the only way the bike chappy can join that unit.
Instead of the expensive bike, why not just get a jump pack? less points, same end result - re-rolling attacks. OK, reduced toughness, but you've got 10 other bodies to go through first, right?
A chaplain on bike could join squad in movement phase, then the whole squad, with Chaplain, charge 6" and all get the reroll to hits bonus.
Chaplain on bike can drive around at same speed as assault marines, just make sure your careful of terrain as chaplain will have to roll difficult terrain tests as he drives through what the assault marines fly over.

I know the jump pack would be the same effect but as a physhologial point would assume it to be more menacing.
Would also like him to move at full speed to aid / support other areas, if / when the Assualt squad take over a strategic location.
So to clarify, he can join the Assualt squad with jump packs if i charge on foot ( 6" )
he can travel at there pace but must roll for difficult terrain.?

not just 'difficult', but dangerous terrain- on a one, he just loses a wound without saves allowed... however i believe that independent characters are also 'skilled riders' so he shouldn't take many wounds that way :p
