Just wondering: Does anyone even use standard poles on their models at all? When I first built my army, I stuck em on whenever they came with the model. Right now, my tac squad sergeants have them, as does my termie librarian. Used to have one on the chappie but not now that I'm swapping his pack out with a jump pack.
But every time it seems I look at models in the showcase or on people's Web sites, I don't see them. Does anyone even use them anymore? If so, what's everyone's favorite way to make the standards? Just regular paper and magic markers, or are there more elaborate solutions?
i don't use them. my Shadow Hawks are a stealthy army and then those bannner poles are not really handy...
i use small imperial eagles on the backpacks on Vet serg. or nothing just the backpacks.
hope it helps
I have standards on lots of my models, since they came wit hthem and they look cool, but lots of newer sets come without them (I suspect they are probably being phased out).
Personally I also think marines aren't suited to standards, only the actual bearers should really carry them.
Since the new codex was released marines have had a change in style, instead of being knights in space they are now bringers of death, as such, standards don't suit them anymore.
I barely use them; one veteran sergeant has one that should be taken off, and my standard bearer has one ofcourse.
Personally I think the backpack-banners look kind of lame. They don't suit marines...

Probably a good way to make banners if you want to have some is buy alot of "green stuff." It looks like it does rather well.
I'd love to know how a Space Marine with a banner on his back manages to roll, or even get out of his transport. *imagines a Space Marine bending over so he can fit through the hatch, causing the banner to jab out the eye of an Ork*Originally Posted by Rogue-Angel

I've got two models with banners on them. I'm thinking about snapping them off.
A friend of mine who is in the military looked at them and asked why they were there. I said something about rallying. He said that was pretty dumb. Why would someone charge onto the field of battle whereing a flag that says "Hey I'm important, shoot me!". So after that I decided not to include them. That and it's difficult to get good looking banners.
A standard bearer I can maybe understand or a banner on dreadnought. But not foot troops.

how did GW actually came up with the idea?
i mean (as has been said) fighting with a 1.5 meter high banner upon your suit isn't to easy and very tempting for snipers.
"who is the cammander"
"ah.. just look for the biggest banner amongst those guys"
i mean come on..
