Guard vs Guard is always an immensly fun battle with lots of horrific casualties, obscene shooting phases and must keep the 41st Millenium's Grim Reaper pretty busy.
However, how feesable are they? Two glorious Imperial Guard regiments slugging it out whilst Chaos, the Tyranids and other such horrors present a slightly more pressing problem?
I tend to try to come up with a good, or at least plausable reason why.....e.g Bad intelligence, one army has been corrupted, inter regimental rivalry....that kind of thing.
Anyone else got any ideas?
Armageddon.....................the armpit of the Imperium
Rebellion, upgrisings, civil wars and wars of faith would probably be the most common reasons. :>
EDIT: Or do it the cadian way. Real combat live fire excercise.
i think guard against gaurd is the best type of game. uprisings is probably the best excuse
Where there's a will there's a weapon
Regimental rivalry! That's awesome. Like Super Troopers, but with thousands of casualties.
Guard v Guard with 1 taking witchhunters and the other deamon hunters could see some justification for the battle.
Rivalry is possible but if you read the codex the regiments are usually self contained units that only fight with each other unless its a crusade then things get a little interesting.
they could all be on drugs
-theres a reason

They are'nt real guards, but two paintball teams
Kaiser has listed the main reasons that two guard regiments would slug it out. However about wars of faith, the reasons those would spark fights between two guard regiments is if they both had different thoughts on what the Emperor looks like and they are the exact opposite on the other planet. Example is on planet X they belive that The Emperor is a snake who kills the rising bird of rebellion, while on planet Y they belive that The Emperor is a rising bird (any kind can come to mind) who eats the slithering snake of rebellion. Which can begin a battle between these two over those ideas.Originally Posted by Kaiser
Also if you wonder about Guard waging war against fellow Guard, the Gaunt's Ghosts hold atleast two of events between guard units fighting against each other. The Tanith First against the Patriarchs (spelling might be off,) and the Tanith First against the Bluebloods.
May the Dice Gods bless our rolls.
I'll be damned before the soldiers of the Emperor are just left to rot!
Last words of Colonel Densit from the Rahaxin 19th
"DISS NOT THE EMPEROR'S POINTED STICK, HERETIC!"
If it doesn't work with the Emperor. Then it's been officially Karmooned!!!
BEWARE THE POWER OF THE LIGHT-BRIGHT!
Here's a thought.. maybe it's all a big training excercise, their lasguns have been de-lethalised. Doesn't work so well for the leman russ though.. there's no way that wouldn't hurt.
EDIT: Missed Kaiser's edit.
