Does anyone still use the basic Techmarine anymore (the one without the full servo-harness)? Its just because just as the latest Techmarine was brought out I had just completed a my scratch built techmarine without a servo-harness and I was wondering if they still have a place in todays new space marine army or weather I have just wasted my time.
I use mine on occasion. I bought mine when 3rd ed. was still out. Dropped out of the hobby only to come back with the new techmarine out, and man did it look cool. But I still use my old one when I don't need to spend the extra points on the improved chance to repair or when I'm using my techmarine as long range support (4 HB Servitors). So he still comes out on occasion.

Its generally agreed that a basic techmarine makes for a good super sergeant. If you need some extra kick in a squad of assault marines, bikes, tactical squad or veteran squad and your HQ's are already elsewhere, the techmarine makes a nice addition.
Mentor of Space Marine Commanders far and wide.
Efficiency VS Point Cost VS Ease Of Use - Your best bets:
1) Chaplain led Assault squad - 2 plasma pistols, powerfisted sergeant
2) 8 man Devastator squad - 4 missile launchers
3) Land Speeder Tornado - HB + AC
I use mine with 4 tech servitors, I find the servitors are better than a re-roll.

i want to use a no harness techie as an apothecary
I've used the Techmarine without the servo-harness many times, and he works as a good supporting character, like a super-sergeant as Chaosbrynn said. Actually, I've never used a Techmarine with the harness, though I have heard they can be alright too.
What do you mean ickle? Use him in place of your apothecary?

The best reason to upgrade to a full servo-harness is if your Techmarine is going to be getting into close combat. The points for the harness boostes the Techmarine's short range firepower, close combat ability and survivablity. Granted he gets a re-roll to repair. But (as pointed out earlier) more Techservitors is better.
That said, giving your Techmarine with four Gunservitors armed with heavy bolters a Servo-harness is not likely to earn back his points. But upgrading a Techmarine with Combat-servitors probably will - or one attached to some other close combat unit. The point is: the servo-harness is a reasonable upgrade for Techmarines who are likely to get into the thick of things. Don't underestimate the servo-arm in close combat either - mine has taken down many tough customers in its time.
