recently I thought of making some models of the scot's (standing and kneeling) and some US GI's. I found these and though that If I swaped around a bit with shock troops (for the GI's) I might come up with some awesome models, although I might have to scrachbuild the Highlander's (as I come from scottish desentants I thought I make some models about them). I can just see It now Highlanders running into battle, the bagpipes singing(it could count as a standand). whatdoyathink?

if your in to old style infantry then go for it, the GI's look very cool and the scots aernt that far from being praetorians but with a twist. certaintly would be a unique army
Where there's a will there's a weapon
That sounds like it would be the most unique IG army ever! The trick is going to be to find a formula for building the troops that you can mass-produce, maybe like 50 times...Originally Posted by dfg
But I totally want to see it! Maybe you could start out with Praetorians, or catachans, and smear on a greenstuff kilt? Chaos marauders from WHFB could make some sweet highlanders, too.
Good luck! Maybe you could post some pics of your attempts, and we could give you more advice.
EDIT: one more thing, you should probably figure out how to do this with the GW models, rather than other lines of models. Firstly, you won't be able to compete with models from other companies, and secondly, GW models just fit better into the GW world anyways. I think that generally WH people are stockier and musclier, and they have unique proportions that aren't exactly realistic, and aren't usually found in other lines of models.

ok great Ideas!! how about using Chaos marauders legs, add on a kilt (using greenstuff). Use some greenstuff for a hat and then use the madauder spures for some arms and bodies although I reacon catachan heads woud go great for heads.
In the later white dwarf i noticed pics of the "drookian swamp watch" the minis were actually wearing kilts, they could be an useful model for you.
cool, although It would be helpful if you gave us a link or a WD number
It was italian white dwarf of this march, the one with the medusa V booklet. Don't know if Aus white dwarf got the same contents
Like the idea of Highlander Guardsmen, i toyed with the idea myself for a while before settling on my drop-troop army (kilts and grav chutes, not a good combination...)
I thought Praetorian upper bodies, as do most on this thread, but i couldn't decide on the legs. I knew i'd have to greenstuff the kilts, either that or buy many many empire boxed sets (the champions legs have a kind of kilt). I play Osterlanders for Mordheim, who are all clad in kilts, but it took ages to find the right models, and most of them are fantasy characters anyway.
Maybe marauder legs, i don't know how well they'd go with the praetorians though...
Whatever you do, post some pics up of how you got on, i'd love to see them finished.
BTW, Bagpipes could be banners, or you could use them as Vox casters, They probarbly inspire and convey leadership so aren't too different. After all the Praetorians get a bugler
Brin Milo's Tanith pipes from the Gaunts Ghost set might make good bagpipes.
