Just wondering with most of you WH players out there, which do you prefer given the choice? the First turn or the Second turn?
Personally its the Second (its the move and shoot of the Exorcists) for me because my deployment is usually pretty sound so i have little fear of losing to much to shooting, and i also think that having the last turn gives you a greater tactical advantage (yes, yes i know it depends how much is left on the board).
I actually like going first given the choice. Destroying vehicles and transports before they've had a chance to fire or move is really fun.

i like going second with my drop pod army because it give my opponents less turns to do things
It depends to me on who you are playing. An army with a lot of tanks on the table, I like to go first to knock some of them off. Same with fast assault armies like Orks, 'Nids and Dark Eldar.
I like to go second with Necrons because they don't get the WBBs on the second turn.

I don't mind, I have a mechanised army and I usually take every precaution to keep them out of view of any shooting. If I went first I have a high chance of striking first, if I went second I can do last turn rushes towards objectives without fear of being shot back.
With mechnaised sisters, it is kind of swings and roundabouts, generally I will deploy my vehicles out of sight (behind woods, hills and buildings), if I can do this with all my vehicles then I would probably prefer second turn as he will have already exposed all his stuff when I get my turn, potentially shortening ranges and presenting targets for me, however generally their aint sufficient cover so anything left in the open gets raked with AT fire if he gets first turn, in which case I would be better hving first turn, certainly for my transports, although the exorcists may have a limited menu

#1 rule regarding "First Turn"
You ALWAYS want the OPTION of choosing to go first or second.
You USUALLY should choose first, but not always. Depends a lot on what you are playing, what your opponent is playing, terrain, objectives, etc.
In general though, if you can get first shot at some of his heavys with yours and make 300+ points ineffective on his turn 1, I'd say go for it.
Going first basicly means you get a free shooting phase.
Going second basicly means you get an extra turn to achive victory conditions.
I tend to prefer second.
But first is probably better, because the free shooting phase is nearly a guarantee to give you a guaranteed material advantage (many WH players take 2 Exorcists).
The extra turn to achive victory conditions isn't always a factor, becuase some games are won/lost on turn 5.
Not all games go as I just described, but this question can be viewed as a bird in the hand vs two in the bush. The [slight] material advantage you gain on turn 1 can be viewed as a bird in the hand.
